If you have a lot of stuff you need to pick up, it won’t show the full amount of gold you have to pick up until you’ve picked up the first round of items. Otherwise, I have no clue.

I was having this problem and had a lot of purchased items waiting to be picked up. When I picked up a bunch of the items, I was then able to get the gold for items that I had sold.
