The last Temple of Grenth event is having severe culling issues.

I’m seeing cases where something invisible was attacking Keeper Jonez Deadrun. No enemies were visible on the back wall near Keeper Jonez (no red names or anything), and I saw other NPCs attacking a stationary statue in the back of the the room. It was like that for 20-30 seconds until a Champion Risen Spider visually appeared, while another invisible monster in the middle of the room attacked the back room with AoE skill, effectively downing Jonez Deadrun.

On a second try at defending Keeper Jonez, while attacking a visible Veteran Risen Spider, the same AoE appeared on the floor, hitting Keeper Jonez again. I looked around and there were no other monsters visible other than the Veteran Risen Spider. More AoE attack landed on the back room until Keeper Jonez’s health depleted, failing the event again.

I looked at my combat chat log for the reason of the mysterious AoE, which revealed multiple lines of “Veteran Risen Wraith hits you for 1,257 using Well of Darkness.”

These invisible monster issues are making the events impossible to succeed, causing people to look around like a headless chicken to find the source of these invisible attacks. Will there be a fix for this?

Yep, culling in large (crowded) PVE events is a major problem and has been since day one. Hard to understand why Anet does not consider this a MAJOR flaw in the game.

Anyone else remember Anet promoting the “end of culling in WvW” and assume a PvE fix was soon to follow??

Culling was episodic in PvE since launch. With the January patch (which addressed culling in WvW in a work-around manner) culling became pervasive and continuous in PvE in events with even moderate participation. Don’t know what happened but it has gotten progressively worse over time.

Now, with the insane number of hard-hitting, high health adds in DE’s (in Orr at least) the culling has exacerbated that piece of bad game design. They need to fix Orr DE’s and then leave them alone. Then it would be great to fix the culling.
