You misunderstand, Zott just stopped swimming, he would not move forward and therefore could not revive Elli. I allowed myself to be killed, in the hope of resetting but he did not appear at the spawn point and when I swam to her, he still did not move.

The only thing which fixed this was restarting the whole thing.

I also have this problem. Zott won’t move, I can revive one guy and then cannot interact with anyone else. We swam around and tried see if there was something else we needed to kill for about 20 minutes before giving up.

For the first bug I think this might be helpful:
- When Zott was not able to enter the ring and revive Elli, I experienced that I forgot to go to the shore and destroy the siege machines. That is after the cannon shootout on both the shore and the ships, I swum on to the shore and destroyed all siege engines by hand.
- So it might be helpful to do ignore that these machines are not destroyed in the verification / approval of continuing the story (if that is coded in)..
- I also detected that if I jump into the water and just swim over to Elli, Zott is not following me.. so there should be some kind of check on this stage that if Zott is not closer to you than xxx yards, meters or whatever he could be teleported to you to be able to do the quest.
(Sorry if I make this sound easy.. ) i am a programmer so i know how hard it is to find these bugs..

- For the second bug:
I helped Zott protecting him using flares all the way including the third siege engine. When I then entered the green circle for the regroup stage, i got a short video clip showing Elli crying because Zott was dead.. but the rest of the crew had died in the battle at siege engine one. I went back to revive them, but when they followed me to the green circle nothing happened.
- I then tryed killing the rest of the risens right next to the circle (there was a line of 5-6 guys there) and when they died.. i got a new video clip showing a lot of people from our side entering the beach and walking past the green circle spot. Then the next to subitems on the quests were passed. But the regroup stage was still marked with a star (ie not done).

- My suggestion for a solution is that the regroup stage should automatically be checked if the next two steps are checked. To resolve cases like mine.. when you get stuck.

I hope this is helpful for you and for my part after a long night rest I think I ll try again.
And the threat about going back to wow again should not be considered likely as I tend to like this game.. there was just a moment of frustration earlier

Ok, so this morning I made it through

For the first bug: Made sure to wait for Zott to jump in the sea before jumping in myself.
For the second bug: I cleared the whole beach for risen people before i lead Zott to the siege engines for destruction. When I had cleared the beach I took Zott to the first Siege engine, then the 2nd and then i ran to the point of regroup without waiting for Zott (as advised further up in this thread).

As my last post stated I got a video of our people running up the beach. I detected now that this video is related to taking down the marksman leader guy. I didnt event meet him yesterday but the group he is with was there and i never saw Zott being shot by an arrow either.
So as i meant yesterday, the two subitems that should complete the regroup item if it doesnt complete are: ‘Kill the marksman Rukbat Rami’ and ‘Report the mission success to Trahearne’. These two completed for me yesterday but the regroup item didn’t and therefore blocked overall completion.

Hmmm, not sure if this is important, but I am having the same bug, Zott is alive but not moving at the edge of the green circle area underwater, I have the one NPC a Vigil Warmaster who I did revive, I’ve killed everything on the beach, except for the trebuchets, which I cannot target.

I returned to where Zott and the deceased Elli are, killed a few more foes, all to no effect.

The thing that I have, which no-one else has mentioned, is that I still have an enemy ship firing at me. Perhaps I need to complete its destruction, before going into the water?

Zott, when I approach him just says “I knew something like this would happen. Why didn’t she listen to me?” and my only response is “Stay calm. We just need to find her.”

Over 1 year on and this bug still isn’t fixed.

All sorts of issues with this quest. Zott is just swimming in one spot, not following or anything.

Got it sorted in the end….

Restarted quest
listened to the entire movie (didn’t skip)
Zott jumped into water
Follow him immediately
Swim under the water enemies
Swim to Elli
Zott followed and revived Elli
Continued quest with no issues

Hope this helps others as Anet don’t seem to want to fix this one.

stiil a blooming issue either let us rez elli manually and destroy the seige weapons manually or this is gonna be 1 hell of a long long long mission tried this 4 times now 1st cant rez elli 2nd cand destrory seige weaps 3 times this getting boring now can i have me money back doubt it

I understand this bug is hard to find so I’m not trying to be a nag but unfortunately it is still a problem. I just got stuck at reviving Elli too. I’ll try the tips in this thread but I just wanted to report it’s still bugged.

still bugged on the rezzing ellie bit. relogged. Going to try the workarounds, let’s see how this goes….

I just ran into this with a friend and I can’t believe it’s been over a year since this problem popped up, yet it’s still not fixed. Aggravating to say the least. Anyway, the first problem where Zott gets stuck on the side of the ship happened when we swam past the Risen swimming nearby toward the waypoint (and presumably got Zott triggered into combat since we swam past them), and then he stayed there without moving or anything as just about everyone else has explained.

We had to completely restart the mission and once we got to the point where it wanted us to go out to save Elli again, I told my friend to very carefully take out any Risen in the way swimming around without getting too far from Zott. We did this, made sure he was following us, and swam over to Elli. This time he got her up.

We did the rest of the mission cautiously taking out all the Risen on the beach before telling Zott to deal with the catapult, mind you, so we didn’t run into the second bug. But still. I can’t see how this isn’t fixed by simply placing a trigger on Zott to teleport over to Elli or whatever if he isn’t at the correct place when the player is, as other missions have done this before.

Please just fix this already. :\

This bug still exist… Zott is just sitting in the water doing nothing =/

Still a lot of bug i attemp at least 5 times. Try a lot of things. I quit game because of this stupid bugs.

About time for this to get fixed. Story line isn’t that interesting to start with and having to face this kind of oooold bugs doesn’t help at all. kitten Zott won’t move in the water, and i can’t revive Elli.

Agreed. After two years this is still a problem. Zott swims stationary far from Elli so he cannot swim to her and revive her.

I just had Zott refuse to do anything with the third treb, and was stunned to find that this is a two year old problem :S

Having issues with Zott reviving Eli and I am at a stand still screen shot showing him too far away to even know where she is. I would love to finish this story so that I can move on.

I got the bug today. (Agent Zott doesn’t destroy the third catapult)
the downside is: after 2 years it is still not fixed
the upside: the workaround of FunkyMonkey.1879 from page 2 is working

after I tried to complete this Story Quest for 2 Days now, i found a Workaround for myself, so the Regroup Bug won´t appear. It might help you too.

- Start Mission and continue, until you are told to meet your party at the Coast.
- Your party tells you to lead Zott to the remaining Siege Weapons, but don´t do it yet.
- Clear the Coast from every Risen first, until there is no one left.
- Now lead Zott to the Siege Weapons.
- After you led him to the third one, run to the point, where you should regroup with your party, don´t wait until Zott has finished his job.
- The Regroup Bug shouldn´t appear now and you see a short movie clip, after that you can complete your mission normally.

I finished Ship of the Line a few minutes ago. It worked for me, but I might work for you too.

Because the thread is kinda long (and old, sorry about that), my guys might have issues figuring out what exactly is still buggy now. I’d love some recent posts with a bit more detail for them to start working from, it will help speed the repro process along. Getting into dungeon bugs is rather time consuming to investigate, this kind of information will help:

1. Are you trying to skip or rush through things?
2. Did the NPC die and get revived? Which?
3. Other out of the way things?

My guess is there is a variable we’re missing because this is launch content and there’s probably a trigger that’s getting skipped.

we jump in water and swim to the wreck and zot stops swimming too far away to see ellie and you get stuck there, just happened now again. it appears that if you jump in before zott or fight any of the undead before reaching ellie this is when it bugs

This bug is still not fixed and there’s no way to progress the personal story. Am I just supposed to never finish the personal story now? It’s bugged every time I’ve tried this repeatedly! Why can’t you manually solve this?

How is this Story quest bug 2 years old and still not fixed?

Zott does nothing on the last siege weapon… and it isn’t a short quest to go through again and again… Not doing anything out of the ordinary, just following the prompts and trying to finish the story. What have you guys even done to try and resolve the issue? Anything?

I did this one I think two days ago (with my husband), and there wasn’t any stall or bug for us.

not rushing, playing through as normal
no obvious NPC’s die
play upto the 3rd catapult, kill everything around – no prompt to blow the 3rd catapult like the other two. nothing seems to prompt it

Zott still does not do anything at 3rd seige weapon (7/26/2015). Please fix this

I played through the story without any problems. But on three separate tries I have been disconnected from the server. On the last run I was kicked just before I was about to be rewarded for my efforts.
Anyone else have this issue?
I rarely lose my connection to the game, maybe once in 6 months.
So it seems a bit suspicious that when doing ship of the line I have lost it three times.
I did get a code from the message : 7:11:3:191:101.
Don’t know whether that is relevant…

I look at these posts from 2 to 3 yrs ago and am disappointed that the same bug still exists today. I too am stuck at trying to rescue the crew but there is nothing but a single whisper agent that I cannot interact with in any way. I’ve tried multiple times.

Logged out and tried it again, both times he stops once you’re on the second dock, before climbing the ramps to the tower, and refuses to move. You can talk to him and he says something about wanting to shoot zombies but his hands are full. That’s it. My first and highest level character, so I’ve never done any of the quest lines before. Kind of sad to get completely blocked on my first play through.

Maybe you already tried this, but on that quest, I know Zott won’t move until ALL the undead in his path are killed. So even as you round the path and head toward the stairs that lead up to the signal tower platform, there’s a small dock down and to your left, with undead that Lionguard are fighting but aren’t in your aggro range – those need to die too for Zott to continue.

Hope that helps, if that doesn’t work though, then does sound as if it is bugged.

Has anyone else had a problem with the cannons and the ships? Every time I try to fire at the ships, I am told that they are either out of range or to close. Is this a bug or am I not understanding what I am supposed to be doing?

11/07/2015 I had to restart this quest line because of these same glitches. Information from DeeJayCee.3027 and FunkyMonkey worked perfectly. First time I could not fire on the ships that popped out of the water, had to jump in and manually kill them. I think this caused part of my first glitch. Thanks to the two who helped!! Never selecting this quest line AGAIN!

So, it’s been 3 years now, and this kitten’s still going on. That’s one way to lose all respect. If you can’t fix it, redo it entirely. Zott won’t even start blowing up the third siege engine after I prompted him to. What a joke.

Jesus…this bug has been here 3+ years.

I started Ships of the Line. Everything went fine until the LAST checkmark: “Rescue the crew of the Windfall.” Zott is NOWHERE to be seen. I know that only he can revive Elli. So I’m stuck and can’t complete the quest. I tried dying and restarting, like I do when NPCs get lost in other quests, but since there were ships in the beginning of this quest that are gone now, Zott is still nowhere to be seen.

Your event logic is broken…if Zott is neccessary to complete the quest, then he should auto-update when you reach Elli’s body and he should be teleported to you. He shouldn’t be able to disappear or get stuck.

Seriously, Anet…I hope someone messages me about this because I will give you more detail. I love this game and I can’t believe so many people have gotten stuck on the very last personal story quest like this. For THREE YEARS.

OK, this is just plain pathetic. I’m having the same problem and the problem is over 3 years old and they have not fixed this glitch. I can’t complete my personal story without it because I can’t get past this one event. I’m gonna try support but at this rate I don’t hold out much hope on something that should have been fixed 3 years ago.

OK, ARA’s way works. You have to kill every little beanie on the way to the signal, even ones not even in your path. I really like this game but this is just one more stupid thing they didn’t think out well. Another few are getting hit with fear from the dragon and winding up in the water half way back to the mainland before you stop, killing something and before you hardly turn your back it has reappeared and is attacking you, and my personal favorite, only one thing in site so you jump in and then suddenly aggro 8 -10 things that come out of nowhere or from 800 meters away. Sighs, goes back to killing.

Well, I can only join my voice to the previous unhappy comments. When I had to rescue the crew of the windfall, agent Zott came with me but stopped short of Ele. He is a little under surface, standing upright, and seems to be walking on the spot… completely stuck. I do feel that such a bug for three years is dead lack of professionalism. Any news on an expected time of arrival for a fix?

Briefly, the story can’t go on…, that’s it.

I just don’t get it, why the SAME bug exists for 3-years-long?!
And they said, it’s rarely seen or the rate is very low…..
Not all players always report bugs in-game to them.

Could ArenaNet just fix this bug, ASAP…., Please!!
I don’t want to waste my time again and again and again, while I can’t continue my story which is stuck by bugs.

The fact that this bug is nearly 4 years old (first post in this thread was September 25, 2012 – here it is May 2016) is pathetic.

Tried to complete twice already, and it keeps bugging out. First time, Zott wouldn’t revive Elli; second time, Zott wouldn’t destroy the third catapult.

Just logged in to comment. I got stuck in this quest as of today. Here’s what I could gather:
Skipping cutscenes doesn’t matter. I did skip all because I knew them already, and still succeeded.
I got stuck in the part where Zott has to revive Ellie in the water. About 3 times.
1. After you finish the goo and plugging thing, go back to the deck, try to finish off any remainig cata/wall before they become invuln and untargeteable. (Doesn’t matter if you don’t I still had all catas up and 1 wall up right when ships appeared, it’s just that I tried to kill em and nothing happened).
2. Turn around and kill the 2 ships.
3. WAIT FOR ZOTT TO GO IN WATER FIRST <- This is crucial, if you don’t let him first, you’ll get stuck.
4. Try to keep Zott close to you while swimming to get Ellie, don’t leave him behind.
5. When you get to Ellie, he’ll ress her and the rest of the squad will be able to be ressed, then you can proceed as usual.

Didn’t have any problem with the rest of the story, just follow Zott and mark the catas to be destroyed, that’s it.

Ran into pretty much every bug described in this thread. I’m restarting it for the fourth time now, hoping it won’t bug out. Really devs, if a quest hasn’t worked for three years, it’s time you threw in the towel and scrapped it. This clearly has some deep seated AI trigger issues between NPCs and monsters.

Edit: I had to wait a few minutes for Zott to start his speech out in the water. I didn’t touch anything during those minutes, thankfully this mission is over now.

Tried doing this story quest with a friend yesterday and it bugged once where we had to retrieve Elli and three times with the third catapult. I just tried playing it by myself and had no issues.

So far, stuck 3 times in a row waiting for Zott to destroy 3rd catapult. Pretty sad this bug still exists.

I would just like to chime in that I just attempted this mission and had the same bug with the 3rd catapult. Please fix this! It’s time…

Same issue as everyone else, can not progress at the third catapult. Can not seem to find a way to resolve this.
