I was playing my Engineer on Canach’s Lair (single player mode) earlier around 5 pm EST.

But I was doing badly, so I decided to leave. I clicked the arrow on the right side of the screen to take me out of the dungeon and put me back in Southsun Cove.

I exited Gw2 (Esc key -> Exit to Desktop).

About 20 minutes later, I logged back in. Supply crate was still recharging, I think it was 60-something seconds to recharge (I have “Show skill recharge” turned on).

I tried doing the Canach’s Lair dungeon again, failed, and logged off around 6 PM est.

Now it’s 10:23 PM.
I logged on to find my Supply Crate still recharging! (about 8 seconds left)

Is this normal? This is the first time I see it.

That is always how it has been. Skills do not continue recharging while you are offline.

Really? Even for months? I know food/guild buffs stay.
But I log off a lot while mid-fight with skills recharging, and in all of these months I never noticed this behavior, unless I only logged off to the login screen. But every time I exited the game itself, even if I launched it again right away, skills were recharged.

Khisanth is entirely correct, skills on cooldown stay on cooldown when you’ve exited the game, and always have.

Disconnects and crashes might be an exception, as the server doesn’t get a request from your client to terminate the session and as such it may keep your character in-game (and thus the cooldowns would keep ticking) for a while before deciding “you know, I haven’t heard anything from the player for a good while, I’d probably better end his session”. Don’t quote me on that though.
