I am assuming this is still bugged? Would of hoped it would be fixed by now…

Definitely still bugged. The community is trying really hard to get an official response back from an ANET Developer, but I believe they are just ignoring this subject for reasons I don’t know.

I think you are grossly overestimating the amount of work it should take to fix this bug.
As for being low on the priority list, this bug report is one of the most viewed (if not the most viewed) in the bugs forums.

As of this moment, it has taken over 2 months to fix a bug that almost certainly can be found and fixed in less than a minute. That’s pretty bad.

Trust me. I’m in Q/A (different company), and I get a little frustrated too when I see something that is obviously a simple fix like this get pushed back for months and months on the basis that we didn’t rate it ‘breaks the program’. Even low-hanging fruit begging to be picked gets ignored because there’s something worse ahead of it, and that thing is taking weeks to figure out. This kind of stuff happens.

Part of our process is to up the priority on old bugs when we do a release so that non-breaking issues will get looked at. Even that’s not a guarantee that it will get looked at immediately, since we have multiple severity ratings.

Are +5% damage potions better than superior sharpening stones or master maintenance oil?

Depends on your stats and whether you’re based on condition damage (potion all the way) or power damage. Comparing a tier 2 potion to a tier 6 sharpening stone or oil… almost certainly not.

Yes, over a year and they haven’t changed a – to a + in the description of a potion to make it accurate. The lack of polish in this game is getting embarrassing as the months go by. This is the kind of quality you should expect when you play an MMO without a monthly subscription.

The sad thing is, the gemshop is making anet more money than subscription. I heared they earned 175millions with gemshop last year.

The context was that someone said to use +5% damage potions to avoid taking any extra damage. It was not an accident that I compared these potions to tier 6 stones/oils.

The point is that the tier 6 stones/oils are probably better than crappy potions if you don’t want to increase the damage you take, but I didn’t (and still don’t) feel like working out which is actually better.

I think tier 2 potions may be a little cheaper than tier 6 stones/oils/crystals.

Might be worthwhile to test the “Defense Against Guards” WXP line as well, which is supposed to reduce the amount of damage you take from WvW NPCs.

Yeah I just delete mine now when I get them. And the whole stacks I had in the bank have also been deleted. It just makes me sad when I see someone using them in dungeon runs. I feel like a jerk telling them that they shouldn’t use those since they have been bugged for forever, but only us frequent forum goers know that.

So either Devs waste development time continually posting “Still Broken” posts to the forums, interfering with time that might fix the issues complained about, or they talk once and wait until something new comes up to post again which means they take more time to work on the game. Which would you prefer?

I’d prefer devs posting a comprehensive list of recognized bugs (with their status – “fixed in next update”, “in progress”, “queued”, “not worked on atm” etc, and severity – “minor”, “major”, “gamebreaking” etc) once a month. It would achieve two goals – it would let us know what the devs know (as sometimes they have shown they can be unaware of bugs that were present since beginning, and continuously mentioned on boards), and it would put pressure on them to actually work on them, instead of ignoring them for months until something brings it to their attention again.
And i definitely would not consider this a “waste of development time”, since they obviously need to have a list like that for internal consumption anyway, If they don’t, then making one would actually improve matters.

4 months to change a “-” for a “+”

How do we know for sure that is all the problem was?

Pretty simple. This is the old text for Powerful Potion of Undead Slaying:

  • +10% damage vs undead
  • -10% damage from undead
  • +10 experience from kills

The text needs to be changed to this:

  • +10% damage vs undead
  • +10% damage from undead
  • +10 experience from kills

That is, a “-” needs to be changed to a “+”. I guess you could argue that there are like 100 different potion tooltips so really there might be 100 minus signs to change.

Well then, I suppose I was wrong there. Too bad we had the same reaction as a few months ago, and they still dont know how to change “+” and “-” signs. If its truly as simple as we all think it is, the eta for this should be pretty soon, since its 1 minute of coding. You know what, give me the code and ill fix it for you! I won’t charge you anything and nothing will be copywrited, profit for everyone!

4 months to change a “-” for a “+”

How do we know for sure that is all the problem was?

If its not the tooltip that switched “-” to “+”, then its in the code that has “+” instead of “-”.
Damage calculation in the coding should be something like this:
Damage taken = weapon damage + bonuses + this + that + x + insert potion here
*note this is probably not the formula, but this is how maths work

Lets say the tooltip is right and we should be taking LESS damage, all that needs to be done is changing “……………. + insert potion here” to “……………. – insert potion here

So whatever it is thats bugged, its probably just changing the sign

They don’t have a list like that internally, they have a bug tracker that they put that information into. Getting useful plots or tables or even lists out of those bug trackers can be an arduous process (especially if it is third party, which it is almost guaranteed to be), and most certainly isn’t worth the development time to do.

I think certain things just slip between the cracks like with all software development concerns. The best we can do is keep topics of extreme importance towards the top of the thread listing so that the QA team members that review this forum see how important certain bugs are and adjust their priorities accordingly. Certainly, complaining about a process you know next to nothing about isn’t productive (this is spoken generally, not to the person who I quoted).

Exactly what I thought as well. And on the other end of the spectrum, if like me you’re a tank support warrior with so much regen that you get through most of a dungeon without ever having a dent in your HP, it’s well- well- well-worth it to get 10% more damage (a precious commodity when your hits are like rubber) in exchange for an unnoticeable increase in damage taken.
