I just hopped on my lvl7 elementalist for pvp but I needed to beat the karka queen to unlock a major trait, ok no problem, I find my way to southsun cove and then get insta blown up by reef riders for 70k-100k dmg .____.

You only got upscaled there during the time where they first introduced that map with a big event and all. That was almost two years ago.

Ok then they should not have placed a trait unlock there :/ I got 3 gold but gathering/lvling up 20 scrolls just to try a new build, no thanks ><

It’s a Grandmaster trait, and the others at that level require stuff like Orr temple events, I’m not sure what you expected?

You can always “buy” the trait as well.

It’s also one of the new traits, which is why it isn’t unlocked automatically in PvP (iirc traits I-XII are always unlocked in PvP).

Just get to level 80. Even in all white gear, as long as you don’t afk in front of a karka or try to pet a reef drake, it’ll be incredibly easy for you to pick up the grandmaster trait.

Despite being on the ‘hardcore’ boss schedule, Karka Queen is actually pretty easy. Average life span once summoned is about 1-2 minutes.

Even the pre-events are easy, you can capture all four camps with just 3 people if you time it right in the right order, provided there aren’t afk’ers nearby upscaling it. (Empty maps like this pretty much never happen anymore with Megaserver)

Just be sure to get at least two of the four possible spawn location waypoints so you don’t miss out – Camp Karka and either Kiel’s Outpost or Pride Point.
