Hey,

I have noticed since the last 2 patches, a very strange problem. When i have Firefox open in the background i get HUGE fps drops when i move the camera around and it doesn’t fix over time…by huge i mean it drops from over 100FPS to 2FPS.

The moment i close Firefox, everything goes back to normal. On IE it doesn’t have that issue. Also with aftereffects encoding in the back i still don’t have that issue.

This only started happening very recently. I also tried at fullHD res, the same problem. Atached kitten with the settings i have been running for quite a while.

Well, based on my own experience since I started playing it years ago… Firefox is to blame. Yes, verify if Firefox is having high memory usage or processor time (yes, I have caught it using above 50% CPU time), that could affect GW2’s FPS somehow.

However, since you said that other softwares running wouldn’t cause that then I’m not so sure if your case is like mine. I just know I have avoided running Firefox and GW2 at same time for a while now.

Certain firefox extensions put increasing load on the program (adblocker+ and noscript among them, depending on settings). I periodically close FF, to reset it.

Another potential issue are plug-ins that come with certain anti-malware programs. These are supposed to work on the more popular browsers, adding an additional layer of protection. In practice, sometimes these have unintended effects on computer performance, including on other browsers, including GW2’s built-in browser.

Finally, a number of people have reported issues with GW2 running on Windows 10 that seem to relate to confusion (in Windows) over which browser is the default. Apparently, WinX has two places where you can set the default and there are certain circumstances where these aren’t the same, e.g. one could point to IE and the other to FF.

I recommend opening a support ticket and working with Customer Service. They have been successful in helping others address this.

Oh, that makes sense. I use both extensions here and I also close it occasionally to resets some memory usage.

I discovered that closing the game and re-launching it, gets rid of the issue for me. I have yet to close other protection protocol’s or Firefox because of the game. security is still strong here. therefore the fault lies within the last 2 patches to the game. just thought I’d mention my findings. Yea i understand what u guys are saying but the strange part is, this only started happening after wintersday end-patch…and i haven’t tweeked FF in any way shape or form since then

@GroundFrog so i am not the only one experiencing this since the last 2 patches.

EDIT:

I did some tests. It seems it has to do something with FLASH player. If i am on a normal tab, everything seems ok..but if i switch to TWITCH when a livestream is on, gw2 goes to 1-2 FPS. If i leave a twitch stream OPEN, and then change the tab to something else that doesn’t display the live video, everything also works well.

Again..this was NOT happening prior to the end of wintersday patch.
