Sylvari "Awakening" Story Issue [merged]
Hopefully they will find the cause soon, I’m level 35 and unable to start my personal story. And I’m sure there are plenty of players at higher levels also unable to begin their stories. Had I encountered this bug as a new player I definitely wouldn’t have spent any money on the game. I expect most would feel the same way so this is probably a high priority bug, even if it doesn’t seem like it (slow to fix).
I must say that it takes quite a lot of time to fix that bug, which is very annoying :/
Hit the same problem, can’t progress past the very first story. Really ridiculous. Hard to believe it’s taking so long to fix or find a work around.
Been 80 with sylvari rev for 3 days now and no fix…
I love my new mesmer.. I’m really frustrated that I can’t reach the salve. I really want to get on with the story. How long does it normally take for the devs to fix issues like this?
I hope I did not waste my item to hit to level 20 instantly for nothing on a Sylvari, I cannot get that back so easily. Been wanting to create a Sylvari along with my other races.

Don’t worry, they’re working on it, meanwhile, you can go about your business leveling up, and doing something else, other than personal story.
Same problem here…
I have tried this quest with 4 different classes, hoping the bug was sex / profession related. Nope, no troll guards and the “wall” preventing your accessing the salve.
Isn’t this the same bug that was fixed about 3 years ago?
6 days later and still no fix… I have other chars to do stuff with and i can wait. However, the new players that might have started their first character and getting treated to this block in story progression might not.
I experienced the same problem.
So the questions are:
1. When will it be fixed?
2. Will we get a notice after the problem is gone?
Just started playing this game. The first character I made was a Slyvari Elementalist. I heard from other players this bug is only affecting those that chose the “moon” as their signal. Stag and Green Night work just fine. Also heard this was affecting some Rangers(?)
Well it’s a little disheartening because I only had to play this game for 5 hours to fall in love and buy HoT… But then I got to LvL 10.. And I can’t even complete the first mission of my story line. I kind of wish I didn’t spend the money now, to be honest. I made some other characters and everything works just fine but it’s not the same. The first character you make is special, ya know? Now I don’t even want to play my main because of the glitch /: it’s frustrating.
Hey all,
I noticed a lot of people posting here are newer players. I also have the same issue. However I would bet that this will be fixed with the next patch. Anet acknowledged this issue last week. They have been trying to do less small patches for issues like this and instead do a larger patch fixing several issues at once. This was explained a few months ago because there were complaints about constant patching and interrupting game play.
I wish there was a bit better communication but if I had to bet, most likely, there is a fix for this on the way but it won’t roll out immediately as it gets chunked in with other issues that get fixed all at once.
I noticed a lot of people posting here are newer players.
Relevance? Seems like a polite way of saying “quiet, n00b”.
Of course it is biased towards new players. It’s the first quest on the quest line.

The relevance is people feel frustrated and want to know when this is getting fixed. I was validating that and explaining how things get fixed in batches and how communication on this specifically may not be the best, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it this is not being addressed. I was trying to be helpful. In no way was I telling people to stop posting about it.

Sorry, it just came across as “Quiet, noob, let me explain how things are done around here”. Things get fixed in batches unless they are major and enough people are upset, in which case a hotfix is applied. Given that the Asura personal story is also bugged:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/A-Sparkling-Rescue-cannot-be-completed-Merged
..and reportedly the Charr personal story is also bugged, this means that 1/3 of new players of these races are unable to progress, unable to understand the wider context of the game world, and are basically reduced to running around squashing rats, assuming they even understand that it’s not them doing something wrong. It breaks immersion and it’s crazy that this was the same bug that happened years ago. It warrants a hotfix.
FYI all, according to the devs in the above link, the Asura personal bug is planned to be fixed in “next Tuesday’s patch” along with some rather condescending comments from the devs about people “freaking out”. So I’m assuming this one is also planned to be fixed then, but would be great to get some confirmation.

Hah, irony. I made Sylvari Ranger with the Moon Shield path. According to your post, it’s the worst combination for now.
Like some people said here – Anet is aware of the problem…
…yet it doesn’t mean it’s not frustrating, that you cannot complete your personal story due to a bug (especially at the beginning of your journey).
I see nothing wrong with releasing frustration that way, as long as we won’t start calling names each other.

In my humble opinion, what we see now is a very unprofessional behavior discouraging new players, but also people who came back to play, from investing additional money to the game. I fully understand that fix is not delivered yet – ok, they have to understand the issue, prepare patch, test it and at the end apply to the game. But complete lack of information about the case progress – as I’ve just wrote, unprofessional.
I’ll wait and see what happens next, but at this moment not going to buy HoT – 6 days of silence from Arena is definitely too much.

Well, they actually replied 1-2 days after the first post, but for now, they remain silent.
If I knew earlier, I would hold my horses, and wouldn’t buy HoT too, but oh well…
just experienced this bug trying to help a friend with their personal story, too. hope it’s fixed soon.

I’ve checked, they’ve answer 6 days ago according to forum

My bad then ^^;
I guess it would be less annoying, if someone from Anet staff posted current bug-fix status (idk, like estimated time when will it be fixed, how is it going etc etc)
I stopped playing my Sylvari at 49lvl. Now i wait for ArenaNet move. We need more information AN! cmon guys!
It’s 6 pm here (central europe). I just checked – still not fixed.
A new day and a snowy one here in sweden, so i thought i would spend one in the maguma jungles. But like in the past 7 ish days im hindered by a wall so strong even the developers of named wall cant figure when the wall can be removed. The rumors says some arenanet guy may have said something about this in a far far away place called red it, im not sure what a red it is but hey im not a racist let the people be what color they want.
All i want to know is when my lovely sylvari hunter may spread her wings and be a part of this lovely game.
Esp
Far far away is not sound so good…

How is it possible that a completely story progress-blocking bug in the FIRST story instance is still not fixed? Get your kitten together, Anet.
Still not fixed
I’m at the point, where deleting my Sylvari, and choose another storyline, but reaching the same level again would be as frustratimg as this bug now, and I can’t decide…
gg anet well played..
I see why they are not able to seperate the skills from pve/pvp and wvw.. not even able to fix an invisible wall x’D
but Black Desert launch is soon so u will have time to fix that..
I heard some rumors – we might wait for fix this bug about one month.
Believe it or not, devs are probably more frustrated by this problem than most of us. So how about show some support instead of shooting arrows at their knees.
That being said, @devs: if there is any way the players can provide data or any way to help out, please let us know. We are all very eager to help.
I can help: give back my money for HoT.

The real problem is lack of communication. Some communication would go a long way here. But according to my recent interaction with Gaile, communication occurs in terms of when it’s fixed = there was communication. In the meantime we wait to see if the fix occurs so we can see if communication happened or not. So people become upset and choose things like refunds or quite and never bother coming back to see if it was fixed. I don’t really approve of this form of communication. Granted I do appreciate the devs, especially Gaile and everything she does but I do not agree with how issues like this get handled.

I do belive. I think an answer from Anet would help here. Even if it will be something like: “Hey, sorry for keep you waiting. I guess the time we fix this will be in 2-3 weeks. Of course remmeber it can take a bit longer than that, beacouse problem is complicated”
It would be much better than complete silence.
Still unsolved. Nothing can get past that wall, although I didn’t get to try elementalist. :/
I am begging y’all to do something about this… I can’t believe that this has gone unfixed for so long. With as many people as this is affecting, it needs to be fixed yesterday

I think it should be fixed 1-2 days after the first post, since it’s the very first mission for Sylvari’s personal story
For those worried about a lack of communication:
I do want to reiterate my thanks for the patience most of you have shown, and assure you that we’re fixing things as fast as we can. Unfortunately, sometimes “as fast as we can” is sometimes two weeks (or longer). I wish we could always have a fix for every bug in the first hotfix after a patch, but some bugs are just harder to fix. I’m sorry this one is taking so long. Please know that we are listening, and we do take your concerns seriously.
Was taken from a thread about another personal story problem. A quick look at the forums shows at least two other personal Story missions that have game-haulting bugs. So there’s quite a bit for them to do.
Telling them “Hurry up or I’m leaving” isn’t particularly helpful. They’re running a business – I’m pretty sure they know that frustrating bugs can drive people away. They probably don’t need to be reminded.
still broken on my side too….

If they are running a business, they should know something about customer support. We are customers of ArenaNet, so they are obliged to at least informed as about solving time of the problem with their product, which we bought. It is their job and they are doing it very bad.
One of the worst customer support I’ve ever seen, at the moment I don’t see any reason I should still be their customer. Looks like they don’t want our money, if they were not able to give us any information past 8 days.

I partially agree. I bought HoT, and for me it’s 4 times more expensive, than in USA (currency exchange).
I can’t say it’s the worst customer support ever, ‘cause Perfect World Entertaiment have worse (they help you if you spend a lot of money in their games), yet I’m dissapointed.
It’s not like I won’t recommend buying HoT, or playing GW2 as free user, rather: “think twice before purchase”.
This same glitch is happening to me right now too. I’ve made another Sylvari character before, but wanted to try the ‘Shield of the Moon’ story. When I made my newest character, a Revenant, it seemed as good a time as any to see the story. Then I got stuck here…
I tried a few things to get it to work, but have had no luck yet. My first attempt didn’t work, so thought it was a temporary glitch, so I left/reset the instance. The second time I tried killing all the trolls along the way before getting close to the salve. Same result. The third time I ran past all the enemies straight to the salve, but still ran into the invisible wall. After that, I went through the entire instance and slaughtered every single troll, but again, no change.
If anyone has a solution, help would be greatly appreciated. I know it’s unlikely, but we’re all having this issue because we wanted to play as Sylvari. I’m trying to retain their optimism (or naivete) . :P
Edited for clarity.

still bugged

It’s understandable that you’re annoyed, however the post I quoted was from three days ago, not eight – and they outright gave you a possible timeline of “around two weeks.”
Now I do agree that more communication would be nice – more so because most people will see this bug and think that it should be fairly simple to squash.
Like most people, I’m not particularly happy about the response from Anet in terms of keeping us updated on the problems, and having both a Sylvari and Asura, both stuck in the lvl 10 story missions I feel perfectly justified in being unhappy about these bugs.
However, anyone claiming that “a bug like this should be fixed ina day or two” has obviously never done any serious coding (and patching/debugging) in their life. It’s not always that easy…
I’ve had times when I fixed a bug in one place and, without (apparent) rhyme nor reason, having it break in another (without touching the code involved), with the only solution being rolling back to the previous version and simply fixing the original bug all over again. And that can easily take a day or two if we’re talking about a program with 100K lines of code or so… I don’t want to even imagine how long it could take with something as large and complex as GW2.
Anyhow… enough ranting… back to what I started with: Anet, please, try and be less sparing with the updates, even if there’s nothing new. It helps keep people happy

I completely agree with you on all your points, and can definitely state that a previous Sylvari (that I created well over six months ago) was able to proceed well past this story point. Rolling code back six months would be lunacy (if not impossible) Anet did have the story working before, they’ll have it working again. In the meantime, I will move on to another character and check back in on my Sylvari in a week or two.
Still buged come on team FIX IT.
