I find many, many times when I’m out and about that tab targeting is quite cumbersome and many times it has actually caused me to get into more trouble than anything else.

1) If there is a Charr Renegade smashing me in the face with a great sword, why does the tab target focus on the Stag eating grass behind him?

2) If I’m in the middle of a fight, why will I randomly lose focus and instead target one of my minions?

3) If I have 2 young Minotaurs chewing on my heels and a Veteran Minotaur pounding on my skull, why will it tab target the young minotaurs first and leave the Vet alone until the two lesser threats are dead?

Just tossing these out as food for thought, not sure if they’re truly “bugs” but they didn’t quite fit as “tech support”. Also: yes this is a repeating and reoccurring thing, and yes all my drivers are up to date.

They are planning to change how targeting works, which I believe will be part of the balance patch on Oct. 15. This will alter targeting to prioritize important targets first (i.e. champions and players instead of pets, mobs, and minions), and will also change it so that the targeting works more on proximity.

Currently, the tab-targeting mechanism works in conjunction with the way your camera is facing. It means that you may actually target something that is further away if your camera is oriented towards it rather than the enemy that is close to you. I believe they mentioned that the change will always focus on the nearest target first irrespective of camera, incorporating the priority mechanic so you don’t have to wade through 50 minions or something to get to your target properly.

It’s possible you might also be accidentally clicking on the other mobs or targets when moving the mouse around, but you shouldn’t simply lose focus of a target if unless it goes out of sight or something. I have experienced such random focus loss on world bosses before (i.e. Tequatl), but generally not on normal enemies.

Yesterday Ascalon fractale – run to my friends attacking the warriors, didnt mark anything and faced directly the enemy 12 o’clock. Summoned an illusion and pulled the eles wich were at 8 o’clock … why autotargeting – you used to work once

While I appreciate the “Is your computer plugged in?” response, I can assure you that it’s not an accidental misclick. I have waited a while to make this post in hopes that it would be resolved or that I could find some other fix (due to user error).

I concur with the OP, the targeting in the game makes me laugh a lot. Why am I targeting a bunny halfway across the zone when a guy in front of me is beating the tar out of me?

Glad to hear there are plans to make it actually target things that are important. Like stuff that is currently killing me.
