Temple of Balthazar event impossible
I got it!! Proof that this is attack is completely broken:
http://youtu.be/BfnKq_PlXUc (1080 avail)Did you blink and miss it? It happened Everytime the Subjugator blew its horn.
If it was atleast a 1 second cast, I would have interrupted him EASILY & saved the Pact.
This goes directly against their standards on Telegraphing the biggest attacks. They HAVE TO CHANGE IT NOW.
…Or they have to atleast explain to us why this case is somehow “Special”.
You and your party members, along with everyone else who’s been trying to figure this out, are awesome for sticking with this and finding the cause. It seems like as soon as their morale starts to fall, you know the event’s doomed.
Hopefully now they’ll actually fix this issue or at least make a way around it. I’d been saving up karma for a while so I could buy the rest of my obsidian shards in one trip, and right when I get enough is when this started. Literally same day.
Well thank you kindly! … But GWC deserves most of the Credit here for not giving up on it for good like I wanted to …And of course he’s the one who disseminates the Info in-game so that everyone eventually understands what to do.
..and if it doesn’t get addressed…
..and remains one of those things that just stays broken with no explanation, well the documentation on it here will not just fall out of sight and thus out of mind.
Eventually they’re going to have lot more than just 20-30 very annoyed players on one or two servers. This is tied directly to Legendaries and at some point when they finally finish that Scavenger hunt that’s been nearly a year in the making, lots of people are going to want their Clovers next.
This really needs to be fixed. When you fail in a game, you want to know that there’s something you did wrong which caused you to fail, and that you can improve and get better to not fail next time.
The most frustrating thing that can happen in any game is you failing, then realising that you failed because the game felt like pooping all over you and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Bump, because this needs attention.
It’s the weekend…. I don’t think they’ll have anyone here again till monday.
Gave it a try yesterday (friday), called on the zerg from cursed shore and others (around 20-30 people) they mobed up the risen quite effective.
The wife and i was on healing guardians, and was only consentrating on healing and protecting the pact and we almost succeded.
What seemed to be the problem was:
That the pact morale is based on how much damage the pact members takes.
We where almost at the waypoint and all pact members where still alive (no one died) but still the morale was around 5 %.
The morale stays down even though you fully heal the members, so you fail if you are not extremly lucky (skill has almost nothing to do with it) all it takes for you to fail is having one npc do area damage to the pact.
Sad part is that this is one of the most important locations in the game, since it is the only place that sells obsidian shards.
It is over a week since we got a official responce, it would be nice to get a responce to a estimated fix or another workaround (for example let the Grenth karma merchant sell obsidian shards, also a desent hard event)
^Just to avoid any confusion?, Is the above post about Chan in Cursed shores? The main topic of this thread is Balthazar Escort in Straights of Devastation. The one devs response so far is only in regards to how the Morale of Chan’s squad now reacts.
It’s not clear yet if they actually have anything in common either as the actual “Well” casting attack of the Veteran Plaguers & Subjugators doesn’t seem to be affected at all by “Scaling”. However they sort of have a similar solution to completing them (if you’re really lucky) which is to attempt to gain the aggro of the most brutal “one-shotting the NPCs”, mob the instant it renders, and collectively “keeping its aggro far away from the NPCs”.
I’ve also verified (by Catching one that spawned behind & was trying to catch up to nuke the Balthazar Escort)… that they won’t cast the wells on 1 single player. It seems specifically scripted to only cast on Groups …

Something is horribly wrong with the event now, it is pretty much impossible to keep the morale up, and since it has failed so many time because of it, this event is just not being done anymore.
Hoping Queen Jennah announces they are going to nuke all of Orr back to the bottom of the sea.
It’s easier to do if you can get 2 pacts going at the same time.
It is possible with only one pact, but sometimes the moral just goes from hero to zero in the blink of an eye.
Toughen up, kids…
At this rate, they really should make that obsidian shards guy appear in every temple. At least then when one Temple’s events get broken to the ground, at least there’s still some way to get them.
I wouldn’t mind these so much if the NPCs had any sort of regard for their own safety. In such missions in GW1, healers could constantly keep the NPCs alive and protected, but that’s much more difficult to do in GW2 since there is no class that operates like monks did.
But yeah, I’ve done this before where you have about a 3-5 second window to do whatever you can to save the NPCs, otherwise it’s back to pushing the events.
Also on this note, it’s a bit annoying how the trek to the temple can start when one of the other groups are still on their way there. You have to time the arrival of the groups so they can go together. If one gets there too early, it can make things much harder. I don’t know if there’s some sort of “waiting” point the event goes into, but we’ve had it where the group disembarks while we were still getting another one of the groups to the rendezvous point.
I think all the materials should be available at each temple. They can just have the armor and jewelry stats vary.
Whoever still needs Obsidian Shards and doesnt know it any server managed to do this (Jade Sea obviously did)… http://www.gw2state.com/temples.html
Toughen up, kids…
We did. We’re back to beating it almost every night.
That doesn’t mean it’s working properly however. And I’ve confirmed this with several commanders. (I also have video of said commanders showing their strategies and near failures). So If you’d like to weigh in without just dismissing people and looking like you’re trolling then I suggest you dig up some footage yourself of your “commandering” instead of derailing a Bug thread. (there’s lots of other forums for the Lrn 2 Play spam, thanks)
Reduced the time to fail timer and increased the restart timer on the event to secure Shank Anchorage in the Cursed Shore..
Regarding the Chan event (which ties into these escort events being changed), this makes it harder for legit players doing this event. Champ jesters take out the Chan escort in the blink of an eye (especially because the NPCs can be targets of bombs). Is this a temporary change before re-doing this event? I was hoping the change would limit the amount of times embers could spawn (like on the champ giant event before Arah).
Uh oh…

…Kitten just got REAL.
Still waiting for someone from Anet to confirm if this Behavior is intended or not

…now would be a good time before this issue explodes on them.

I think this is still going on. At IoJ last night we attempted to do Balth last night, several times in fact, and it was not working. We were doing the escort mission and as far as I know/can tell, we can get it up to the steps, and then it’s instant down for all the NPCs, which means instant fail.
we even tried to go in smaller groups so that less Risen spawns, but that didn’t work well either.
I love it how NOW that I finally get myself a precursor, Balth is impossible…
We’re having the same problems, although if we get past the slope, then we normally get up the steps ok.
It’s more likely to fail just at the start, as soon as the second wave of mobs come in.
The moral seems to just vanish, it doesn’t seem to matter how many people there are, 2 pacts make no difference, it’s just not consistent.
It’s frustrating for people that are shouting do it this way or that way, I don’t think there’s an answer for it.
It’s rubbish since they messed it about.

It’s not impossible. We’ve been opening it about once per day on Sorrow’s Furnace for the past week. You just need enough players and a little coordination.

Whether it’s possible or not, is entirely out of your personal hands.
If you knew exactly what to do right, it could still be impossible for your server so long as even 1 single person is just indiscriminately Nuking the spot that the Vet Subjugators spawn at & then gets the Vet’s aggro. ….I don’t wanna use the G-word here, b/c that might only lead to more people doing exactly that… But this is an encounter that runs completely backwards to the way that all other encounters in the game are won by zergs. To win, you have to ask every single person who shows up to do the following:
- Don’t use Speed Buffs/Walls anywhere near the Pact
- DONT NUKE all the things, (except Nobles… YES nuke those ASAP)
- keeping weaker risen alive longer so the Pact doesn’t rush ahead into the wells
- know exactly where the Sub-Vets spawn and stand there.
- equipping melee Weapons only: http://youtu.be/c0rUMPDWm7k
- If the Subjugator is stuck in its long LifeTap animation, DON’T INTERRUPT IT
- use as much single target Crowd Control as possible
- use only single target attacks if DPS’ing the other mobs from Range
- stand directly inside the Sub-Vet’s melee range if using a ranged weapon in general
- avoid using too much Knockbacks unless the Vet is pinned against a Wall
Maybe not everyone has to do this, but everyone who is on the leading edge of the escort & has a chance to grab the aggro of the Vets does. Also anyone who’s standing in the middle of the Pact too. And then also consider that probably half of the people showing up, turned Map Chat off a while ago b/c Lion’s Arch is a horrible horrible place to stand for more than a couple minutes with it enabled. So they won’t even hear the commander’s orders on what to do and what not to do.
.
as for the exact spawn locations, I’ll see if I can squeeze some sort of image somewhere into the Wiki article on it: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_of_Balthazar ….which is almost completely out of date currently except for the latest blurb added by an IP…

They have data and records about it that tell them how often Balthi is open on each world, … so they know there is something fishy about that. It is not that people don’t want to do it, but it’s just incredibly absurd to do.
Of course it shouldn’t be a cakewalk, but it also should never be a PITA…
It should be doable with a group of people like the other temples, why should Balthi be something special? It is just like grenth, melandru, dwayna, lyssa, … so they should make it to be on par with these temples.
it has been a year now, still no freaking fix.
it has been a year now, still no freaking fix.
Actually 2 and half years. Temple of Balthazar event was bugged on start of the game.
Properly working 60$ game? You joking right? But you can buy a new necessary gem shop stuff… WHAT DO YOU WAITING FOR?! GO BUY IT!

Not sure why this thread is resurrected — I have been doing the “Eye of Zhaitan” run 2-3 times nightly for the past month and Temple of Balthzar has been liberated at least once (maybe twice) in the time I have been on that map, daily.
ilr.9675 in his post already listed the strategy for the temple escort, though if anything simply knowing the Veteran Risen Subjugator spawn locations and preparing to interrupting/knocking/killing them quickly enough goes a long way in successfully completing the event.

Yeah. I manage to catch a Balth run every day or two, and they almost always succeed. Maybe cry less and try the strategies pointed out in this thread a year ago. It’s very doable as long as you have people paying attention (most importantly when the subjugators spawn).
Just came back from a Balth run. There were two commanders (including myself) calling out the Veteran Risen Subjugator locations, including one Thief. Kinda funny the Thief (in character) walked up to a vet sub and pointed “There!”. :-)
…had to share.
