I have completed all but one of the hints for the “Hints Completion” achievement. In my hints log, I have received a check-mark beside every hint except the one regarding “Broken Equipment”. I have broken (red shield) ALL 7 pieces of armor on different characters (in PvE & WvW), yet this has not yielded a check-mark. Sometimes the hint does not appear at all, but when it does appear, the hint does not register into my log, even after I have repaired my armor. I have also tried solutions that had been posted in previous topics relating to this matter, but none of them have worked for me. I have tried equipping/removing broken armor many times; that did nothing. I tried repairing my armor immediately after receiving the hint pop-up (when it seldom appears); that did nothing. I tried repairing my armor when the hint didn’t appear at all; that did nothing. I tried making a new character; obviously, that did nothing.

I am not sure if this is an issue with the Achievement or the Hint itself, but seeing as the other threads are from around September/October, I thought that I would try seeking a more current solution to this problem… if one exists.

I realize that this seems like a relatively insignificant problem, but I have wasted a lot of time (and copper) trying to figure this out and I would really like to be able to complete the last point to this achievement and finally be done with it.

“Damaged” and “Broken” are not the same things. As you can see in your screenshot, on the right there is a checkmark for “Damaged Equiment” but not for “Broken Equipment”.

A cracked red shield simply shows that piece of equipment is damaged, it does not mean that there is a broken piece. Hovering on the cracked red shield on your red orb health display (when you manage to get it to pop up) shows yellow armor pieces for damaged, and red armor pieces for broken.

According to them, you don’t start to see decreased stats until an item is “broken”. You must allow a piece to get completely broken (red highlight, not yellow on the equipment popup graphic) and you should get the hint checkmark upon being shown the graphic that includes a red “broken” piece.

Basically, let yourself be completely mauled by enemies and killed until at least one piece goes from yellow (damaged) to red (broken).

I am already aware of the difference between the yellow and red shields.

I stated in my original post that I broke ALL 7 pieces of armor, so that I had a red shield on every single piece of my equipment. To elaborate, at this point, my character was reduced to nothing but his underwear, so I know that he was no longer receiving its effects.

Through doing this, I have received the hint pop-up several times, though it takes forever to get the ruddy thing to appear; I have to break my armor several times over until I get lucky. However, I emphasize the main problem… when I finally receive the pop-up, it does not get entered into my hints log.

Please see i am stuck at 82/83 achievement points. When i looked under the Hints menu, it showed me that the Laurels part was not checked. I have 74 laurels in the screenshot and i have spent around 40 or 50 on an Ascended Amulet already so…not sure why this is not checked. Can someone please help!!!

I am experiencing the same problem. I have all Hints achievements done except for the Laurels one. It is sad to dedicate so much time and effort to be rewarded with punishment. And this is not going to stop here. Either a skill point that is bugged or a npc that ignores you (bugged), or you are kicked out before you managed to get the chest (bugged) or, (did I mentioned “bugged”?) no specific answer or support from aNet or developers what so ever.

Oh, sorry, I drifted away from the issue. Yes, I have earned and spent loads of laurels. Please, recognize my achievement.

P.S. And don’t say it’s “bugged”…
