Guild Wars 2

So I just dropped by the main GW2 site to check this week’s streaming schedule (I enjoy Guild Chat and catch it whenever I can), and I noticed an unfamiliar toolbar across the top of the page. It mentioned “coupons” and when I moused over it I saw a drop down menu which mentioned the main game and both expansions but didn’t have “Guild Wars” spelled right; the “S” was omitted.

Here’s a screenshot. Maybe I’m just paranoid, but I’m gonna go run some antivirus software right here and now.

If you mean the ‘3 coupons’ one, that looks like the Avast shopping add-on. I see you have other Avast add-ons enabled. You can turn it off in your Firefox options.

Another option, if you want to keep the shopping add-on, but not for GW2, is to read the News Blog instead for upcoming Guild Chats. You can access it from the forums by clicking ‘Community’, then on that page, mouse-over ‘Community’, and click ‘News’. (I know, it should work directly from the forums, but…well, it just doesn’t; it’s stuck on last February).

You don’t need to deactivate the Avast add-on — it is super good and saves you a lot of trouble!

What you need to do is this:

1. Press the Windows key
2. search for “Programs and Features”
3. find “Avast Free Antivirus”, right-click and select “Change”
4. select “Modify”
5. uncheck “SafeZone Browser” and “SafePrize browser extension”, but leave “Security browser extension” checked (!)

It will uninstall the annoying add-ons but will leave your browser security add-on intact. That add-on is very helpful to identify fishy websites and keep your system save from harm.

Edit: I am attaching a screenshot so you see which extensions should be left unchecked at installation (some are useless as they only work when you buy a professional edition of Avast; also, for a system cleanup, use CCleaner).
