So for the second time in as many weeks the “defend Penitent Camp against invasion” event became bugged due to the disappearance of Technician Otto…and for the second time, consequentially the area became an almighty zerg present for the entire two days endlessly killing the never ending waves of Orrian attackers in the hope of loot.

People running as far out as possible to the spawn points in the hope of “tagging” everything first became irritating to me in about ten minutes and I left the area quickly on both occasions.

But seriously, when people are prepared to spend hours or even days performing the same monotonous actions that arise as a result of a bug….there something still very wrong with the loot system in this game.

Actually, this isn’t true. In any game I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a bunch, there’s always a percentage of people who’ll ride a bug like that. Every single game. And there are a bunch of people who won’t ride that kind of bug. I won’t. I’ll do it for a few minutes, get bored and do something else.

Saying there’s something wrong with the loot system because a bunch of people want fast and easy is not only unprovable but completely naive.

This bug happened on Gunnar’s Hold the other week. It began on a Friday and lasted until Anet did a maintenance build on Sat evening ,while we were at the final boss in SE p3… Great timing ..

The most annoying aspect of this bug for me are not the players camped at the spider spawns locations, is it the fact that all of the other pent/shelter/jofast events are blocked!

I work, and weekend game time is precious for me. I rely on weekend farming of the pent/shelter/jofast events for in-game income.

Agree with Vayne.

I know the bug you’re talking about in Orr. What I find funny is that the monsters these people are running around killing in the hopes of better loot are no different than the monsters that are in the area anyway. The loot table on these monsters isn’t any different. Yet people get all excited about it because it’s a bug.

Ever seen people in dungeons insist on some exploit that actually is more of a pain in the kitten than just playing the dungeon the normal way? I see this all the time. And you can’t tell them that it’s easier just to play it right. They have to have their exploit.

I’ve no idea why people get all excited about this kind of thing, but they sure do.

Its not “naive”…its “cynical”. And you’re right about the mobs nearby because I took full adavantage of the fact that over 100 people were mindlessly subjecting themselves to a very fast DR by farming everywhere they weren’t.

But the fact remains that most people who want to acquire gold quickly farm Shelters / Penitent nearly endlessly…and of course the ubiquitous CoF P1. ie. Not what the designers intended for the “game that hates grinding”.

Are people farming CM? Or CoE? Or SE? No..because the return isnt as fast. I grinded the mats / money I needed for Volcanus almost solely at Shelters / Penitent…because it is without a doubt the fastest money you are ever going to make in this game. Judging by the hordes of people who are usually there, I’m not alone in this assumption.

Less walking in case of an event, more mob killing at once

But in orr there so much mobs that this is not needed I believe.

Agree with Vayne.

You’re naive to think this is the only game this would happen in. I can remember other bugs in other games, exploited just as heartily as what you’re describing here. Even games you could make money fairly quickly in.

The truth is, people just love to get over.

I don’t recall saying I thought that this was the only game this would happen in. But it’s the only game I’ve played in where most of the people were already in the location of the bug and within 5 minutes map and guild chat is full of “loot bonanza!! get yourselves to Penitent Camp!”.

Here’s an exact quote from the end of your OP…

But seriously, when people are prepared to spend hours or even days performing the same monotonous actions that arise as a result of a bug….there something still very wrong with the loot system in this game.

People will perform the same monotonous task as long as they think there’s a benefit in it, particularly if it’s the result of a bug. It doesn’t necessarily mean there’s something wrong with the loot system. This is the conclusion you drew. I pointed out it’s happened in other games I’ve played, a big group of people exploiting until it was fixed.

It happened in SWToR with a PvP bug that allowed people to spawn camp the enemy endlessly. It got so bad, Bioware had to shut down the PvP area until it was fixed completely. A lot of people will do anything endlessly if they think they a) can get away with it and b) think it’s profiting them.

They do it because they know that the opportunity to do so is a small, small window.
