I recently gave the materials to a guildmate, and had an exotic staff crafted.
I really did not care for the shell look, so I applied the generic GW1 HoM transmutation to it, figuring, later I would grab one of my skins I found off drops to apply.

A few days later I found one I really liked, and then grabbed some Fine Transmutations.

However, it won’t let me transmute it. One is a lvl 76 blue, the other a level 80 exotic but both are staffs. I add both to the window, but can’t click the button.

Is it because it’s been transmuted once? If so, can this be changed? I may have a favorite exotic piece stat wise, and want to change the look 10 times. And thus purchase more transmutations from the gem store. I would think you would WANT us to be able to transmute an item 100 times, since it’s a form of income for Anet, thus I’m assuming this is a bug?

tldr: I couldn’t transmute (using a fine transmutation stone) a staff that had already been transmuted once.

I haven’t tried with weapons but I’ve been able to transmute my armor several times as I get better stat items.

I wonder then if it’s either:
a) a bug with weapons, or
b) a bug with not being able to re-transmute after applying the GW1 HOM transmutation.

The exotic crafted staff is all white, with a shell on the end. I try to be nice with my feedback, but it’s hideous for an exotic weapon. Big deal right? We can transmute…
Well…The one I had found looked almost like a hammer, and even ‘sheathed’ had an electricity animation. A real bummer as I’ve only gotten two the entire month or so of playing…and have since sold it in frustration and bag space. Hopefully I can hear back on this either way.

Have you used a transmutation stone before? If not, the transmute button is greyed out until you select each part that you want on the final result – i.e. select the appearance box at the top from the two options, then select the stat box in the middle from the two options, then (if available) select the upgrade box at the bottom from the two options. Only once you’ve selected all three of those so you know exactly what the finished item will have appearance/stat wise will the button to transmute become usable.

I saw no other boxes on the screen…I’ll give it another go. I have transmuted before many times with the HoM stuff, and it looked like that with no buttons. “Drag an item into each box” was pretty all I saw, and a “transmute” button. I’ll check this out again though and thanks for posting.

I have had a problem with the transmutation stones, regular and fine, with weapons and armor.

I’ve transmuted with HOM items without a problem, but the stones won’t transmute even though the items are the same (i.e. both items were cloth chest, staffs, etc. except in appearance.

Unfortunately I haven’t heard any news on when or if this will be fixed.

I’ve been having this same problem.
I’ve been trying to transmute my [Scale Armor, Lvl 35] into [Iron Legion Armor, Lvl 17], both are heavy armor, and I’m a high enough lvl to use all the pieces. But when i load both into the Transmutation Window it doesn’t allow the change.
