I used a twisted watchwork shoulder skin on light armor shoulders, and later decided to change the appearance of the item, but wanted to retain the watchwork skin. The transmutation splitter says that it returns the item that gave the appearance, which would be the watchwork skin, but instead it gave me a lvl 1 light shoulder armor that had the appearance of the watchwork shoulders. Since you cannot transmute armor across different classes, this means that in the future I can only transmute light shoulder armor to the watchwork appearance, whereas the original watchwork skin could be applied to any armor class. Disappointing that the item does not do what it says considering it costs 300 gems, hope it is a bug. With the release of more cross-armor class appearance items such as the gas mask and toxic gloves/shoulders, this would mean that even with transmutation splitters you need to be careful when applying these skins since it will lock the skin into the armor class you use it on.
