Dear Sir/Mdm,

With regards to legendary weapons transmuting, did Anet actually purposely program transmuting legendary weapons with exotic weapon stats to become exotic type weapons? Or is it in fact a bug?

Because I’m sure Anet would understand that players would want to transmute their legendary weapon to certain stats but the players would also want to keep the legendary status of the weapons.

1. May I know if the team is working on a fix, or is it just the way the teams wants transmuting on legendary weapons to be.

2. And if it’s actually a bug, suppose if I wanted to transmute the stats now, would Anet be able to fix the legendary status of the weapon on a later patch? Or should I wait till a patch is up before I actually try to transmute the weapon.

Thank you for your time and your hard work.

Sincerely,
Boyce

looking forward to a reply for this thread as well, since many people work towards legendaries for the skin and will definitely want to be able to keep the rarity of it after transmuting if it is possible to do so.

I believe it will take the status from the stats you’ve picked but it would be nice to take the highest status of the items transmuted (at least when both are exotic or greater)
on a side note I would like it to also retain the status text rather than just saying “transmuted” thought that’s more cosmetic than anything else or would people confuse it with the rare item?

I am almost done making my legendary and I had been wondering this. So I guess I can’t transmute it to have different stat’s before or after I make the legendary? That stinks

If you do transmute it (only to have different stats, but still keeping the name of the legendary – i.e., the top bar) after you make the legendary, even if it goes to exotic status, do you still keep the cosmetic look of the weapon?

I’m almost positive this is occuring because the game thinks the item is the item that provided the stats rather than the Legendary.

For example when you die and get a transmuted item repaired, it’ll say the name of the item that provided the stats rather than the name of the item that provided the image.

What would be really nice is if fine transmutation stones could change the stats on a weapon, but not the number values.

That would also be a reasonable thing to give level 400 crafters.

Yeah, keep dreaming. They’re not going to give a trade skill something that so directly competes with a gem shop item. Selling a one-time-use gem shop item is the reason this game had a bad cosmetic system in the first place. Compare it to Lord of the Rings Online, that simply has separate slots for your looks (and not just “town clothes”), for example. You don’t have to consume a piece of armor to keep your stats and change your appearance in the game. They do not have any cosmetic system at all for weapons, however.

Therefore we proceed to write a sig.

Or; GW2 is gigantic and ambitious and they went with a system that was easier to implement and manage.

I’m not really as convinced of the gem store conspiracies for everything as most people.

I’ve got 15 fine transmutation stones sitting in my bank without spending a penny, and I’m only at 50% world completion.

They did it in GW1. Costume slot overwrote the armor slot as far as looks. GW2 is using a modified version of the GW1 engine. I imagine its a lot simpler than you believe it is.

Costume slots were for costume gear only. It’s essentially Town clothes in combat.

This also brings up the issue of when the power creep occurs to the legendary what then happens to all those that were transmuted to the stats you wanted? Will the creep up as well but with the stats you want? Will they revert and creep?

All good things to know with the eventual power creep of the legendary.

Your legendary is still the “legendary”. when you transmuted it, it became an exotic class because the original stats changed. It’s still the legendary, the only thing you lost is the purple colored title.

The core item offering basic stats is the one which dictates the rarity and font color of the resulting transmuted item.

You actually transmuted the Legendary skin over an Exotic item.

Just out of curiosity…it’s still doing things on the outside right like the regular incinerator right? Like all of the effects and stuff? Just curious, because I’ve been thinking of doing the opposite and Transmuting Bifrost stats to a Scythe skin and was wondering what would happen (obviously I’d have the Bifrost stats, and it’d list the Scythe as purple) but was curious about the effects of weapon attacks…would it be rainbow colored attacks or the same as regular attacks?

As mentioned above, looks like you changed the stats of your weapon so it’s become an exotic stat weapon but with the legendary skin. If in the future updates they do do a stat buff on the legendary you won’t be able to take advantage of it. Nevertheless though, the effects of the weapon should remain since the skins is still the same.

It would be nice 2 hear some answer[s] about this. When you apply new stats to your legendary from an exotic item, your legendary changes it’s color. Is it a bug or it’s a normal thing?

And if it is a bug, please say when you will fix it. I’m very curious about all these people who already changed their stats, will you return them their “normal” legendary color?

Sorry, i have not found the thread with this issue, 2 many topics and bad google indexation.

Thank you.

I assume it is intended; it is how it works if you transmute a green and yellow item and keep the stats of the green….

Item color depends on the item that gave the stats, not the skin. So if you use your Legendary as a glorified weapon skin the resulting weapon can never be a Legendary (at least as long as there is only one Legendary of each weapon subtype). Theoretically you could even have a white weapon with a legendary skin if you so chose.

This isn’t a bug. You are transmuting the Exotic Stats to another skin. Legendary skin or not, the stats are what is important here. You can’t be purple when your strength is equal to orange. Not unless you transmute it into another legendary that is.

Stats are what determine the colour, not the skin. Always keep that in mind when transmuting.

I know you’re desperately hoping for our answers to be wrong, and I sympathize, but look at it logically: it is how transmuting works.

As I said, transmute the a blue and green item and the same thing happens.

We are so sure because it works that way for every single weapon in the game. Each of them. Not a single instance of something different happening. So, unless some developer says that Legendaries should be an exception to that rule (and I have no idea why they should) it is very safe to assume that the same also applies to them.
