Trash collector

Note: In some areas creatures that would normally drop Seashells drop Shells instead. In these areas the creatures will not drop Seashells.
Some creatures that can drop a certain junk item will only drop it in a certain area of a certain map, instead of all creatures of that type dropping it anywhere in the game.

I am missing the seashell which is the last piece I need for this collection. However it seems whenever I found this “seashell” it is listed as unidentified and I can not use it. I’ve had this problem for months now.
It just dawned on me. You got the Unidentifiable Object trophy item. It uses the same exact icon as the Seashell.

ANet is fond of reusing icons and reusing names (with or without identical icons). When in doubt, you can shift click the name, prepend it with /wiki and look up what the item you have is, e.g.
/wiki [Unidentifiable Object]
/wiki [Seashell]
That would bring up the same articles that Charrbeque linked above.

hm yeah.. I can never find the seashell and it’s been like a year, but i’ll check the wiki.
The 2-copper value on these things shows that you need to go after low-level crabs. Find some in the starter areas.
