Twilight Arbor: Forward/Up path: Nightmare Tree spawns too many spiders.

Result: when fighting the Nightmare Tree, during the Twilight Arbor explorable mode, forward/up path, the spider adds will endlessly spawn in huge numbers. The spiders are just way too many for a normal group to handle. Their ranged poison attacks are overwhelming. As it is, the fight requires fully geared groups of very specific compositions. Considering that this is a level 55 dungeon, this is even more apparent. There is something wrong with the number of spider adds being spawned. Not only that, but the spiders don’t even despawn when the boss is reset (like if the whole group dies). Also, this is not the way the encounter was prior to the latest patches. (Look at the many youtube videos of this fight and then go do the fight naturally, with no cheats).

Expected Result: the boss should offer a challenge appropriate for the level and for the types of groups who normally undertake explorable dungeons. It should also be feasible with any composition of classes. The spiders should spawn in smaller numbers, more slowly in time and should despawn when the encounter is reset.

This is an unannounced or undocumented change since the June patch, which changed the behavior of the spiders.

I want to hear a reply from ANet devs about this change, because I don’t know if this change is actually intended.

I’m thinking this is intentional. Just have 1 person agro all the spiders in the room and have him keep running circles around the tree with all the spiders, while everyone else stays out of spider agro range and range the tree.

I just spent the last 2 hours with a fully geared level 80 team on the final boss of this path and we were not even able to get the boss to 50%, even with a Guardian. The spiders spawn endlessly and the poison is basically an insta-kill to a group running in. There was nothing we could do to even touch the boss really. We tried kiting the spiders away from the tree while the rest killed, but some spiders don’t kite and more continuously spawn. We tried giving everyone Longbows and ranging the boss, but he regenerates health at the same rate as we take it away and he still sends spiders after us as well as his insta-kill move. This is most certainly NOT a level 55 Dungeon, it’s a level 100 Dungeon because an entire team of 80’s could not even put a dent in the boss. This path needs to be fixed as soon as possible because right now the Dungeon Master achievement is not possible.

wow… I’ve never even tired that path before…. now I’m deathly afraid of it. XD. Why spiders! I hate spiders. Thanks guys for the heads up, I’ll keep a watch on this post. Hope it gets fixed soon, would love to finish all the paths for TA since I’m trying to work on the dungeon master.

the only real bug is that the spiders do not reset once you wipe, but it’ s still doable nonetheless.

2 ways to do it:

1: stack under the boss, chain projectile reflects, and dps him down before you run out of reflects or are overwhelmed by spiders. This is the easiest way to do it (typically under 40s), but only works on the first try as the spiders don’t despawn if you wipe.

2: should you wipe on the first attempt, you basically have to run around in circles as a group, kite the spiders while dpsing the boss, again reflects, heals and condition removal is useful. Biggest thing is don’t get hit by the green bombs (when the tree does that shaking thing) as they spawn more spiders. When done properly, you don’t even need a full group of 5 to do this, I completed this with 3 people (guard mes engie) after we wiped the first time and 2 people left.

As the boss is non critable, PTV armor is really nice for this fight.

Yea I’m going to have to agree that there are far too many spiders being spawned on this particular boss. This definitely needs the nerf stick taken to it. I mean unless the goal is for the majority of players to avoid doing this path (and most will after experiencing it) it doesn’t make sense to have content aimed at making your players hate and avoid it.

Please fix this – there is really no way to beat him after failing in the first try. I tried for hours with different groups and none got him down.
