Unable to do any damage to veteran risen in Dead of Winter quest
Very similar problems with this one but in my case it’s the Mazdak fight itself (I somehow managed to get past the Veteran Risen even though I died 3 times in the attempt.
This is ridiculously hard quest for the level and it doesn’t help that you are a) stuck with that useless sword and b) that 2 of the NPC’s (Caith +one other) stand there like lemons while the boss facerolls you into floor.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind a challenging quest but could you at least give us the option of dumping the sword for our own gear and skills. Seriously, as a light armour mage with none of my own offensive skills and no aggro control from the friendly NPC’s I last about 20 seconds in melee combat with this boss.
I’m also finding this quest way too hard for the same reasons – the NPCs such as Caithe die too quickly to be any help, which leaves me trying to keep away from the troll while getting in the odd arrow shot. The usual result is that after 3 or 4 deaths (which I’ve had several times now) I have to go back to repair, and then do it all over again. While the game is great, this quest is, to put it bluntly, just aggravating. If the NPCs stayed alive to help it might be different, but as they always die in places where I can’t revive them it’s almost pointless trying to attempt it.
Further to my last post – the simple answer to this appears to be to upgrade everything – armour, weapons, etc., to your current level. I did that and completed this quest in a single go with no deaths, and only 3 downs. And at about 40copper at the trading post for each armour piece (lvl 30 medium) it was hardly expensive.
I’m stuck here too. He agros on me nonstop, and my brain dead companions charge in as soon as I res them to start fighting. Then the Veteran heals back to full. With all 5 of us (Caith, Trahearn, Iowerth, Capt. Bragan, and me) we can start to scratch him, but one dies and it’s epic over. I can’t heal any of them fast enough to keep up with the AE damage. I suppose I can try to run around like a little girl and die while they heal up, but usually they’re dead before I even get back… and heaven help me if they die in the hallway there, none of them are smart enough to get through the traps. This really needs some tweaking.
I tried doing this quest at 29 and got killed 10 times over before I even got to that Elite. I then went back to questing and returned at 31. My gear was lvl 20-25 and it took me roughly another 10 tries, but I DID manage to down both the Elite AND Mazdak after, allthough he also killed me a few times.
I am mage and found that fire and double-daggers was the best armament.
I must admit, I agree that this quest is exceptionaly hard, but it definately CAN be done. A helpfull tip regarding the sword and Mazdak is to read carefully what each of the 5 abilities do. I know its hard in the middle of a fight, but I did find that it made it a LOT easier.
Best of luck brothers and sisters :-)
I don’t know. I’m level 29 now and it downgrades me to 28. My gear is mid 20’s, about right for my char. I can’t outrun him, so not sure how some of you pulled that off. He runs me down before I take a couple steps. Maybe air for a little extra speed. I did find a circle in the catacombs if I clear out the spiders in between death tries, but I can’t pull Capt Bragan back there, he wants to fight in the main hall every time.
I hate to admit defeat, so I guess I try again in a few levels. I still think this needs some tweaking. If it was 5 real people fighting him, we could probably pull it off. With 5 npc’s who just plain don’t wait till they’re at full health before engaging, it’s hard to overcome that handicap.
