If the threshold for September was reduced to 2, people will not have lost time involved, people who got theirs done are not impacted. It can be flicked to 4 again for October.

Seems to me that would be a pretty easy thing to do, and addresses most of the mature complaints that I’ve read. (That is to say, I’m discounting a lot of the "WAH – Someone else got EXTRA this month. Really the only thing I consider a real problem is the time spent towards completion of the monthly meta.)

That is a brilliant suggestion, I hope arenanet is listening.

I vote for this. It seems to be the most fair option. I don’t really care about the rewards, so much as my time being wasted.

big entitled voice Oh but I finished my monthly before they added that Essence of Luck to the monthly rewards and because it only needs 2 now and I have done those already I can’t do it! That’s so UNFAIR. I am never buying gems again.. (ha, that’ll show ’em)

Something like this should be done. Ruining something and then claiming you don’t know how to fix it without ruining more things seems pretty unprofessional.

If I must..

I got 0 laurels

I got ONE flask of karma = 6k karma

I got 50 Silver

I got 20 Coins

And if you didn’t do any of the other achievements at all (unlikely) then sure, I got double achievement points.

So yes, not double laurels, not double karma but still totally worth wasting developer time whining about for dat 70 silver… oh wait.

So…. no essence of luck?

After investigation by our programmers, they have determined that the fix to this issue would be too risky and could end up making the situation worse than it is. Unfortunately, this means that we’re not able to make changes to correct the issue. We’re sorry about this and we will be implementing ways to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.

There is an answer, without a risk.

Grant everyone a “complete” on the Monthly that was just wiped. Fixed. Skip the people that got the award — that isn’t as tough to track as a detailed undo to your screw-up.

I was one Daily from completion — if the patch had been tomorrow, I would have had it. I grinded all weekend after being 3/4 on last month’s Monthly; now this.

FIX THIS. I just started a month ago and you’re not building good will towards gem purchases if you do *!@# like this.

Well I appreciate the plaudits for my suggestion, but I would note this is not something we get to vote on. While I believe my suggestion has minimal impact, I know what code that’s been in constant development can look like. What seems like a simple fix ofttimes has unfortunate linkages to other systems and subsystems and can break things worse. It just seemed like what could possibly be the least intrusive method.

If you were at 3/4 and now you are at 1/4 then great! You have got 20 free achievement points. Demanding the developers fix what is essentially an insignificant loss of progress for some people is childish and immature. If you enough progress in the first 3 days to actually care about then you have still got the achievement points to show for your efforts, and now you get to do the new easy dailies and earn more.

And yes jamesrobert, I did get the Essence of Luck

Stopped reading right there. Your previous comment implies that you believe that either your or my party gets screwed. So people get screwed either way, if that is the case then anet has to do what’s best for most people.

That’s if we take your course of action. However, if anet just completed the monthly for everyone right now everyone will have their reward. Yes, the people who had completed it already will have slightly more, but at least the people who didn’t complete it yet don’t have to start over.

Just be happy that they are aware and are making sure this will never happen again (But you cant be 100% sure. Might happen again)
And one more thing. The programmers said that trying to fix this may cause more problems. So better not touch it, else we will just have another post here complaining about something else.
Its not that big of a deal that you may have lost 20-30 AP. (Not sure about extra Laurels)

Dungeons being about how fast you clear then compared to being able to clear them makes me sad.

This is the 3rd time I remember of it happening. It may even be the fourth. But the other times people got extra laurels. There are no extra laurels to be had with this one.

Each time it happens they say it won’t happen again.

I love GW2, it’s one of the most fun, best designed games I’ve ever played.

I’m NOT disappointed by the fact some people might get double rewards (good for them), NOT because I lost 3 completed monthlies or rewards.

I have a full time job, kids, family, etc., therefore not a lot of time to do the things that I enjoy (this game for one), what does disappoint me is that I have to grind out monthlies again instead of enjoying other aspects of the game, and no, it doesn’t take that long to do them unless your playing time is very limited (as is mine).

I literally spent all my playing time past 2 days killing champs, group events, and mastercrafting, and was pleased to have finished them all only to have them disappear today

This is simply unacceptable. I have been a big fan of GW2 through all the bugs but, to be told that there’s no fix and no plan to compensate the customers that paid for this game to work just makes my blood boil. The time I spent cannot be recovered, and now the rewards I collected have been ripped off. I could live with that if there where a plan to try to make it up to me/us. But I’m not hearing anything about a plan like that.

…and to the people that say, just do it again, I say Shut Up. When I get ripped off, I don’t take to it kindly. …and if you do, then please tell me where you’ll be when you throw your money in the street ‘cause you can always earn some more, and obviously you won’t stand up for yourself if you get ripped off. With the argument going on in this thread, if you go to a restaurant and notice a loogie sitting on your steak, you should just happily eat it because it’s not actually harmful to you anyway. Besides, the amount of effort and time the chef would have to put into making you a new steak would just be too big of a deal and bothersome. It also appears that if the customer does complain and returns the steak, it’s perfectly okay to say you’ll do something about it and then come back some hours later, shrug and say nothing can be done about it.

Honestly, when did complaining about issues and bad service concerning a product you paid for become a taboo?

I’d also like to throw in the idea that if you look at the amount of time people put into completing the monthly achievement… two days. That’s how many hours? Maybe eight? Minimum wage is around 6€/h, I suppose. 8*6 = 48 euros. Now, multiply that by the amount of people having the issue and you’ll end up with a rough image of the cost of wasted time. Not to say that all the people would have been working instead, but you get the picture, yeah?

Of course, the more you work, the more precious your time off becomes. No one wants to waste it.

I wouldn’t care if this kind of screw-up was a one-time thing. With Anet, it’s EVERY SINGLE PATCH. They break something major, every freaking time! And you know why, because they apparently have no QC team. For a million dollar business, that is inexcusable.

I don’t agree with all the vitriol, but it’s laughable that you can stand there and wag your finger at people for daring to express that they are displeased with a product they paid money for.

I respect the game, overall it is very well done but that doesn’t change the fact that I am upset that I wasted 2 days working on the monthly to have it erased. I have the right to complain and hope they make things right.

Sounds like a lot of people in this thread should probably, for the sake of their health, stop playing online games.

Seriously, if you get so mad about a bug that you post things like “so angry I can’t type properly”, then log off now, go to your GP, get your blood pressure checked (you may well have a problem there), and then find a new hobby that relaxes you instead of enraging you.

Dying of a stroke before you even get old is a lot more annoying than losing some monthly achievements.

You folks need to relax, just did the monthly again and you DO not get the Luerals…and the essence of luck (500xp) isnt even something to shout home about since salvaging a common blue can easily yield 10….So stop the kittening, you missed out on nothing.

And its obviously not as hard as everyone thinks since I managed to do it in about a few hours.

Furthermore, I am afraid to say this latest incident cost you me playing and my spending. This cavalier attitude towards your players/customers, their experience in your world and NCSoft’s lack of commitment to quality is completely unacceptable. I will concede, as others have pointed out, that this is just a game. That being said, this issue, and others similar over the past year, show that while you have a spirit of gaming that other game producers sometimes lack, that spirit isn’t team with experience and wisdom to produce a solid, reliable and dependable world and experience in that world. I appreciate all of the hard work of the folks at NCSoft as it was very entertaining while it lasted. However, that experience was marred by entirely preventable mistakes by the NCSoft team. So NCSoft gets and A for effort and C for execution.

So others reading this have some insight, professionally I manage a system that handles money. Under no circumstances can I report that my team made a mistake and we lost money. Players here should demand that same level of service from NCSoft.

I lost money via gems- buying Black Lion salvage kits- utilizing the 2 for one thinking – why not? It would go toward my monthly salvages. I can’t understand why the game gods at Anet , who yes, make mistakes like all of us- can’t send those who lost their points toward monthly achievement – the 10 Laurels. No more gems for me- Why play a game that can’t make something they screwed up., right.

Why don’t you tell your programmers to not make wide changes like that without a chance to make up for mistakes? Wasn’t the karma fiasco a telling enough sign to not do big things all of a sudden without telling anyone? 10 laurels is a relatively small issue, but what if it was something actually important?

It’s fine to make mistakes, but since you aren’t going to even try to compensate (aka owe up to something in concrete terms instead of just an apology) ; this is just embarrassing.

Players here should demand that same level of service from NCSoft.

That will never happen. Anyway, it is unfortunate that neither party is willing to do anything other than offer a statement.

Given that farming some invasion runs could have gotten you 2-3 of your monthlies extremely quickly, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were accidentally reset because in their mind folks were getting it too fast, too soon.

I actually completed my monthly last night, yet this evening, I’m reset to 3/4.

Both my Monthly Salvage Kit Usages and my Veteran Slayer had been reset to the first tier after today’s update, despite the Veteran being complete and Salvage Kit Usage being well through the third tier.

Forgot if I had 3/4 done, but whatever the case, it was almost at 100% completion regardless of how you look at it. Now it’s back to 1/4 and long ways from completing. Any ETA on when this will be fixed??? I almost fainted due to this big big bug. :-O

I rarely ever post on these forums and accept that a game of this scope will have it’s issues. I think Anet has done an outstanding job developing this game and adding content at such a fast pace.

I will say in this case from almost having my September monthly’s complete only to have to start over due to the mistake/bug is disapointing and the lost hours is what bothers me most. I think an in game reward is in order if verification of users affected is even possible.

Anyway, it is what is is. Life goes on. Again love the game.

After investigation by our programmers, they have determined that the fix to this issue would be too risky and could end up making the situation worse than it is. Unfortunately, this means that we’re not able to make changes to correct the issue. We’re sorry about this and we will be implementing ways to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.

I was at 3/4 and even started up a new crafting profession just to do the Masterwork Crafter. Cost me quite a bit in materials as they’re currently at an inflated price. This is very frustrating and worse to see A-net just shrug and say there’s nothing you can do about it when its not our faults.

Regina, as you say, A-net will be implementing ways to ensure that this doesn’t happen again in future; So, can you state on behalf of the GW2 team that if this happens again, that you WILL rollback in spite of the ‘risks’? We shouldn’t be penalized for A-net’s mistakes.
