I was previewing cultural norn armor, curious of what it looked like. I preview the boots and then the pants, then the chest piece then bam it purchases it for me. I asked around on my server and many have said its happened to them, many stating “42k karma gone”. Why is the purchase button not being used for its intended purpose? I would think this is a bug given I have lost 30g on previewing a cultural armor chest piece? I submitted a ticket on this issue 121020-001233 just to be told there is nothing they can do about it because they have no way of account restoration or able to return an item or refund an item. I just cant fathom that it is intended for people to be able to simply preview an item and have it just purchase it. I however will never preview anything from a vendor ever again although I think this is an issue worthy of fixing. A, make the purchase button used for its intended purpose or B have it prompt you if your sure you want to purchase the item if its 30g or 42k karma. I think this would eliminate these issues of people loosing large portions of coin or karma, I felt sick to my stomach to watch 30g disappear in mid air and given a chest piece I would salvage before ever wearing. Although now I am nervous because Anet has told me they have no way of refunding or restoring accounts! So I loose 30g today and if i get hacked tomorrow I guess I will get the sorry about your luck email. Please Anet repair and improve the vendors so others don’t fall victim to my horrible luck. It would be awesome to get conformation that in fact Anet employees do not poses the ability to help a loyal customer with these types of issues?
Update: I did some experiments to see if it was my mouse causing it, I could not confirm that it was, I previewed low cost items over and over with no real conclusion. However I do know every time I try to salvage a green item it asks me if I am sure if I want to do so but not on 42k karma and high cost items which can simply be purchased by double clicking on the preview tab, kinda mind boggling. I got another email from Anet about the issue and they were very kind about the issue but still basically said “there is nothing they can do”. SO YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, do not preview items with the currency on you!
I’ve heard earlier that it is not a bug in the game, but something with some mouse registering single click to double-click randomly. So if you left-click once on an item, it may act like a double-click. Someone said it is mainly the Naga mice to appear to have that problem.
It was not someone from ArenaNet who said it, though, so do not take my words for it. It could most likely just be something with the game and not with the mice at all.
Just happened to me -thankfully only 35 silver but I’m a proud owner of a pair of shoes that I can’t even wear. Also a naga mouse.
They claimed to have added a confirmation window for purchases like this in November, but it’s still not working apparently (like a lot of their “updates”). Why don’t they just remove the double click to buy or sell since it causes so many problems.
Here’s another solution -a refund to vendor for accidental purchases. We have a buyback feature so it can’t be that much of a stretch.
