Location: Lion’s Arch Weyandt’s Revenge Jumping Puzzle
Problem: No periodic light shows up in the dark cavern

I have been through this jumping puzzle several times, however, last night something was different. Usually light shows up periodically in the dark cavern to assist in showing you where the next pillar is located to proceed. Last night this cavern was totally dark the entire time of the run.

Fortunately we had a few folks with us who were able to use some spells to light up the area so we could actually see where we were going. Otherwise, we would have been fumbling around in the dark the entire time.

I forgot to bug it in game since we were doing a few puzzles in a row and just kept moving. So I thought I would just post it here now that I remember it.

I think there is a torch on the ground in there if you don’t have AOE/items to highlight objects to jump on as well. This actually happened to me every time I wasn’t alone (maybe they stay off when someone is in a certain spot?).

This is not working as intended. That torch has always been in that cavern. What is missing this time is the periodic light that blossoms in the cavern for a brief while which actually makes it easier to see where you are going.

BTW that torch does not really work all that well either. I have tried it, but with patience I managed to get through this jp several times before, just by waiting until the cavern lit up for those brief moments so I could position my next jump.

I am seeing the periodic light just as often now as before. There are a couple of work-arounds and a couple of possible explanations for what you are seeing. First, you can use certain skills to light up the rocks on which you are jumping, e.g. Thief’s shortbow-2. You can also illuminate your way using certain weapons, e.g. Ranger’s torch (just use any skill) or the Fiery Dragon Sword from the Hall of Monuments.

You can also change the gamma setting in [F11]→graphics to make everything brighter — this is usually sufficient on its own.

Finally, some of the elements of the puzzle audio (and I think video) are triggered by the player and not automatic or even the same for every player. It’s unlikely, but possible, you missed crossing some spot that triggers how often the light appears. You can self-troubleshoot this by listening for the dialogue, “didja run aground? Well, don’t put your eyepatch in a twist” — that happens right before you get the room light that lasts the longest.

Pretty sure this isn’t a bug, but rather a game mechanic. When you are the only person in the darkness part, the light shows up, but if there are a number of people the light will not show up.

Pretty sure this isn’t a bug, but rather a game mechanic. When you are the only person in the darkness part, the light shows up, but if there are a number of people the light will not show up.

The light appears for me regardless of how many people in the area.

My experience was that the cavern does not light up if there are multiple people doing the JP (or more accurately, somebody just entering the darkened room resets the timer on the light). However, there are several ways you can get through the room even if it is totally lightless:

1. The easiest way is to have the Fiery Dragon Sword (HoM skin) or the Mad Memoires Complete Edition equipped on your character. Both items give off enough light for you to see the next platform to jump to.

2. Use the outline of a ground-targeted skill to look around. The targeting circle is still visible in the dark, allowing you to locate the next pillar. Some ground-targeted skills like Lava Font or Portal Entre also give off enough light to see by in a fashion similar to Method 1.

3. There is a torch lying on one side of the darkened room. If you have no light-creating skills, you can pick up the torch and use that. The #1 skill creates a temporary ring of fire around yourself, giving enough light to see by. Note that the torch disappears a certain amount of time after you pick it up, so you’ve got to be quick.
