For years, ever since the first game footage was shown at game-shows, I was really excited about the in-game log-in screen; it just looked really cool, coupled with Jeremy Soule’s amazing music, it was rather epic actually.

Well, it’s gone now. During beta 3 I thought my problems would be solved when I found the command for -useoldlauncher. It’s nice to have options, right?

Well, that’s gone now, too.

I cannot understand why they have removed this option, apart from some technical issues that Anet is not sharing with us. I can’t even manage to get to the login screen at all, manually or accidentally. I saw it once during beta 3 when I was disconnected for some reason. After launch, whenever I get disconnected it just brings me back to my character screen.

Ideally, I would like it if you could please put the login screen back and give players the option of using either the new launcher or the old launcher. If you can’t do that, at least show some transparency and let us know why you can’t.

For some reason, your track record with login screens has been less than accommodating. After 7 years of development, I don’t know how honest it is to say it was impossible to let players choose the campaign login they wanted for GW1. I hope today that you will be honest and just tell us why we can’t -useoldlauncher, especially since it was working previously.

It is really a part of the image of Guild Wars 2, and I think many fans would love to have it back.

actually this was kind of funny, I was regularly updating and running the app with this argument and at some point after the last BWE it was getting some net related crash report (which I submitted)
shortly after another update came out which disabled the argument :P

evidently some part of the code requires you to be logged in before the game actually launches

I would love to have it back.
