Over the course of three weeks- i have played about 200 matches of sPvP and on four occasions there were players who were somehow immune to being finished off by the “stomp” and can only be killed with direct dmg.

And its not just me- i remember 3 of us were trying to stomp one guy for about three tries and he was nearly able to heal himself up before we hit him down with our normal attacks.

It happens when the downed person was knocked back, or otherwise teleported right before getting downed. The servers and the clients have different information about the downed person’s location. So you might see the stomp prompt come up, even the stomp animation but it won’t work because you are stomping thin air.

I guess the best thing you can do is to target them and ranged autoattack them as if you are using targeted skills, you could be targeting the wrong area.

The devs could come up with a solution- maybe if a player begins a stomp animation the server can try to figure out why. I mean- its not like you can just stomp whenever you want.

That won’t work for several reasons. Mesmer downed clone allows you to start stomp but you won’t stomp the actual player. Theif you can start stomp but he can teleport away. 2 players are downed near each other would also create an issue I would imagine. Such as You go to stomp the Mesmer clone but a downed guardian is closer to you than the actual downed Mesmer. He is waiting to use his knock back but ends up getting stomped because, with your proposed mechanic, something has to be stomped when you stomp. Same thing would happen with theif teleporting. As a Mesmer you could start stomp, blink away and totally avoid guard knock back, ranged stun, warrior knockdown if the game is going to stomp the player no matter if they are near or not. There really isn’t a work around for this however this is mainly due to lag. If the person is lagging this bad they are going to keep dieing anyway. So really it’s not a big deal. Sure it takes more effort to kill them in downed state but they are lagging so hard they are easy to kill or you need to learn to play better.
