Why are devs answering so rarely here?
No need to answer them if they see them and fix them. Though a post here and there from time to time would be nice to show us that they are actually reading them.
Even a “Thanks for telling us, we’re working on fixing this problem” would be nice.

Josh Davis was a godsend when he came into the bug forum. He frequently responded to bug reports and discussed them with us and would then forward the bug to the appropriate department/person and add it to their tracker to be fixed. Great for Josh, but unfortunate for us, is that he got a new title and seems to strictly work over with PvP related game facets now. Good for you Josh!
Unfortunately, this puts us right back where we were before his arrival. Notice that not a single bug was listed in yesterday’s patch notes? Under “Balance, bug-fixing, polish” was just a vague statement on optimizations. The lack of attention to bugs is one of the reasons I have now decided to no longer update the Bug Tracker sticky thread and have already sent a request to Josh Davis to un-sticky it. Another of the many reasons is the lack of player interest in adding bugs to that list for tracking. Then again, why keep adding bugs to track when they no longer receive dev responses acknowledging them and sending them off to get fixed, as well as bugs on the list never really getting off the list, even after a year of being reported. Even the armor clipping issues thread is full of clipping issues that have not been fixed, despite dozens reporting them for many, many months. To be fair and truthful, I’m not saying nothing is getting fixed. I’m sure one or two have been fixed over the last 6 months. Remember the Order of Whispers boots with the red daggers taking over 3 months to get fixed despite the issue having happened and gotten fixed in a day in the past, twice? I think even the huge lighting/texture flicker in front of the TP in the Grove finally got fixed after being that way for over a year. That was actually quite a surprise to see/not see anymore on a daily basis.
Anyway, I’m just saying that I’ve resigned from trying to help out in the bug forum as bug fixing is clearly no longer of any importance, despite being only minimally important before. Why bother putting the time into something that no longer has any value or serves any useful purpose?

I am sorry to hear you feel that way, StinVec. I thought you were doing quite the community service. It’s too bad it’s no longer appreciated as it should be. I think there must be many open positions for hire, as things seem to be bigger than can be handled easily by the amount of people currently available. =(
Hey guys,
We’re sorry that it’s been a little quiet around here — rest assured, that does not mean we aren’t listening and checking into just about each and every bug reported in this forum and any other. Josh has been swept away by his new tasks, so I’m going to do my best to poke my head in here as much as I can.
StinVec, as Josh has said to you, we’re incredibly grateful for your efforts! We’ve had a bit of a shift in positions over the past few weeks, so that is why there’s been a bit of a lull in the developer interaction in this forum. Hopefully with me being here now, that will change.

@StinVec:
Every time I came across your posts, I was honestly floored by the amount of time you spent keeping track of bugs for the community, despite not being an ANet employee. For that, I thank you. While I cannot attest to what happens behind the scenes, the sheer number of posts by you compared to those by ANet employees really put them to shame. I say this not as an empty insult, but in hopes that they realize they have a lot of room for improvement in this area. Bugs may take time to fix (though, honestly, they probably could fix them a lot quicker if they devoted more manpower to certain areas), but it’s not an excuse for not communicating more with the community. The most insulting aspect is the current marketing that this game is more frequently updated than any other game. While it may be technically true in regard to Living Story releases (even though much of it feels half-finished), the bugfixing, as you have yourself noted, is simply shameful, especially when there are so many that are as simple as updating a tooltip, yet have been around since release.
@Kirk:
I honestly hope those aren’t empty words, because I have seen plenty of names pop in here and there, maybe once a week for a small spurt of posts, and then are never to be heard from again. Also, you can probably understand our cynicism; we are constantly told that our posts are being read, but if that were true, why are there so many 1+ year old issues that may be as simple as changing a tooltip to reflect the correct cooldown? Surely, it can’t be that difficult to implement. Get the house in order before boasting about how often the game is updated.

As they say, actions speak louder than words. When bugs that are 1 year+ old from launch are still around, I’m not sure how much faith I can maintain.

Kirk, you’re making it sound as though there have only ever been 2 anet staff appointed to bug-fixing.
What with a zillion+ bugs still present since launch, this sort of makes sense now.
But honestly, saying you are “going to do your best to poke my head in here as much as i can” sounds as though it’s not your given task and is just something you are volunteering to do (like a player).
None of any of this inspires confidence in anet whatsoever.
I recently sent my annual bug report (not a joke) and fully expect to send it again next year and the year after that.
In fact, if anything I have ever reported was actually fixed, I might have to rethink my faith.
tldr: FIX The Clipping Armor Already.
Hey guys!
@ Lack of red posts: First off, I understand the frustration regarding the lack of red posts in the Bug Forum as of late. As previously mentioned, I switched teams/roles recently and have not been a presence in this forum since. In addition, because of some issues with Kirk’s forum account he was unable to respond on the forums for issues he was escalating. The good news is that things seem to have settled down and Kirk is ready for mega awesome forum posting fun-times. He’s a great guy – go easy on him!
@ StinVec – Again, thank you for all of your efforts over the past few months. You’re a champion.
Thanks everyone!
People report bugs all the time. ANet will never fix them all. There will never be enough Devs in the Universe, let alone working at ANet. Here’s what they will be weighing:
- Is it urgent? (Living story vs clipping)
- Is it important? (blocking issue vs cosmetic)
- How many people are affected? (everyone logging in vs just mac users vs just mesmers using staff-2 in a specific location)
- How much is each person affected? (can’t play vs easy work-around)
- How much effort is involved in resolving the issue? (dozens of devs vs fixing it while working on a similar issue)
- What else would be impacted by the fix? (affects combat balance vs text issue)
- Are there other plans in place (new content or fixes) that would resolve this issue? Can this issue be bundled with others?
Bugs are prioritized according to above and assigned to relevant coders, artists, translators, and writers depending on the issue. Some stuff that I find important is going to take 5 years to fix; some stuff that someone else thinks is trivial will get fixed today.
While I agree ANet can do better in communicating which issues reported on the forums or in-game are fixed in a patch, I am impressed with just how many player suggestions are implemented and how many player-reported bugs are fixed. If you aren’t seeing this happen, look again.
is AN or NC hiring for someone that can stay on as forum mod? or taking on volunteers that can get limited access to keep the community updated?
