Why am I made to constantly sign into the forums?

When I was playing other mmos with forums, it kept me logged in.

Gw2, even if I leave the page up for a few mins, eventually I have to log in again.

Is that too hard for anet?

Blizzard does it.
I could close the page and come back the next day. When I pull up the forums, I read posts, I respond to posts GG.

Here, naw, you can’t do that.

I’m not sure if it’s a forum bug or intended to be that way but i need to log in all the time as well even after leaving for 5 minutes.

All the time? Most posters have indicated it’s once/day. Maybe you need to create a Support ticket.

Yes, I closed the browser but, when I played WoW and went on blizzard forums, closing the browser didnt mean anything. I never logged out, why would i have to log back in?

Im not claiming its a bug. Im saying, they need to make it work correctly in the first place.

That would probably be due to differences in browser settings. I don’t have to log in each time I close the browser either.

The forum uses session cookies which are supposed to be expire when the browser is closed. Asking for the login every time you close the browser would be consistent with that. Firefox and IE(no idea about the other browsers) have a startup option for restoring the session when it starts so it behaves as if you never close the browser window.

Perhaps the OP can adjust his/her browser settings.

ANet doesn’t require you to login every time you close your browser. However, it stores your last login time in a cookie. If you have an add-on or have otherwise set your browser so that it only saves cookies until you close your browser, you’d have to logon anew each time you start a new session.

The reason many sites do this, including this one, is to make it harder for others to logon using your credentials (e.g. perhaps the about-to-be ex-significant-other, who wants to get you in a little hot water before letting you know about your new status as ‘single’).

tl;dr this is something on the user’s end, not ANet’s

It’s an Anet issue,not users,all most other sites i visit i never have to login again even after a few months,it’s the way anet uses the cookies,not the users browser.

I forgot about another case. Normally on pathofexile.com I can stay logged in forever but sometimes I have to kill Firefox and then the cookie seems to get in a weird state that causes me to be logged out when I close the browser. The “fix” there is to delete the cookie for the site then log in.
