Near the top right side of my screen a list of 6 daily achievements suddenly appeared. I have none selected in my watch list. And if I select one to watch, only that one will appear in the list. So I can make the list shorter but not get rid of it completely.

Have you just reached level 11? According to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Level_rewards this is when the daily and monthly achievements get unlocked.

And yes, that’s the way it works. It will display a list of six random daily achievements unless you specifically select at least one to watch. Once you’ve done the Daily (5 daily achievements), it will do the same for the monthly achievements. Once you’ve finished the Monthly (4 monthly achievements), the list will go away.

Wrong. You never unlock them. They are unlocked since lv 2. The level rewards are only unlockable hints for you to see.

If you have no watch list set up you will see random list of daily and then monthly after daily is complete or nothing at all if both are done.

I’m new to this game. I have 3 <lvl10 characters, and it did show up for all of them when the first one reached lvl11. I’m very disappointed that this isn’t a bug and it’ll always be on my screen! Too much screen clutter is distracting!

If you don’t want it on your screen, the best alternative is just to track some random achievement that you probably won’t get anytime soon and then minimize it. That is the least clutter it will let you get away with short of completing the dailies and monthlies.

Completing the dailies and monthlies for the laurels is very worthwhile in the long run however, but that is another topic.
