Windows 8 black screen
A quick band-aid that will ignore the problem, but usually lets you play without experiencing the issue, is to run in Windowed Fullscreen mode.
If you prefer Fullscreen mode to Windowed Fullscreen and would like to actually solve the issue, then there are many things that could be causing it.
- Does your GPU utility have an Anti-Aliasing setting and is it set to something other than Application Controlled?
I’ve seen it mentioned that the Intel HD 4000 graphics utility does not have a setting for Anti-Aliasing, and I’ve seen others mention that it does have a setting for Anti-Aliasing.
In your graphics utility for your Intel HD 4000, check the Anti-Aliasing setting (if it is listed as something you can adjust) and ensure it is set to “Application Controlled”.
- Are you also using a program that has any form of on-screen display?
If you are using MSI Afterburner, Fraps, or any other utility that has an on-screen overlay element, then this could be interfering with the game displaying properly in fullscreen.

My gpu doesn’t have any anti aliasing settings. I do always have it turned off in game though as i’ve seen problems when I have it on in other games.
I also do not have any programs like fraps running.
I have noticed this issue has been popping up frequently when I open the black lion trading post. Not sure if that window does something special that the others dont?
This started happening to me as well, I use win7. Alt tabbing became dangerous… I now use windows fullscreen… :-/
We might be small and outmanned, but we have big tomatoes.

Did the problem just pop up for you recently too?? This never happened to me until maybe about a month or 2 ago and seems to happen about every other day
