I purchased a Rare Mystery Wintersday Box from the gem store and received only 2 common gift boxes which gave 2 ugly sweaters, and 2 festive mortars.

I did not receive a random item only available in the store, as indicated in the patch notes below.

From the December 14 Patch Notes:

“Rare mystery Wintersday boxes will have a chance to drop throughout the world. They will also be available in the consumable category of the Gem Store. They will contain gifts available in-game, plus a random item only available in the store.”

Is it possible the boxes aren’t working as intended? Or perhaps the patch notes incorrectly indicated to players what would be found in the boxes?

Regardless, spending 2g22s for <5s worth of common and freely available items from the Trading Post was extremely disappointing.

I can confirm the chest did not work for me as well.

With the one chest I opened, I was only awarded with 1 crafting ingredient, and 3 personalized gifts – which yielded 2 festive golem tonics and 10 ugly wool hats. I did not receive any store items.

The patch notes are quite misleading in this regard.

I as well spent 100 gems just to try my luck, i wont do that again. i got 10 ugly sweaters, a movement speed boost and 3 tonics. it was not worth the money. it is indeed misleading and i hope we all get refunded our money. TOTAL WASTE

I also spent a lot of gems on these mystery boxes and didn’t get anything that’s in the store.

I agree I feel totally ripped off on a box.
I bought 1 box and got 2 mortars and 1 ugly hat..
That is it…
What the heck? 100 gems for that?

I should have gotten the earmuffs or something. That is the last time I buy a mystery box in this game at least in Star Trek Online you get something worthwhile even if it isn’t the big prize.

Lesson learned A-Net

I have to agree and would like a mod or someone to chime in. I actually went ahead and spent 800 gems for 10 mystery boxes and got pretty much nothing but ugly items like 6 useless tonics and 1 festive hat. Does that sound worth $10 worth of gems to you? I was under the impression as well at least 1 item in each box would be a store exclusive item. I opened 10 mystery boxes and got jack meanwhile my guild mates open 1 box each and get dyes and the golem mini. The patch notes are quite misleading. Is this a bug or is that how the mystery boxes were intended to work?

As if you guys didn’t learn your lesson from the Halloween mystery boxes haha…

No doubt. I learned my lesson big time with the fiasco during the last holiday event and the chests. Lesson learned Anet. Fool me once… they haven’t and won’t be getting any more money from me. F2P from here on out.
