There is a 30 seconds grace period, so as long as you can change characters between those 30 seconds there should be no problem.

It’s acumulative, that is, if you change characters (it takes you 15 secs) and then you DC because of lag (taking this, for example 20 secs) it will count as a loss regardless of the final outcome of the match (because you have acumulated 35 seconds of DC).

I have an SSD and from the moment of hitting character select to when i load into the match, it’s at least 45 seconds.

No idea what the title of your thread is referring to, and frankly, the post you quoted is out of context.

Not sure why it takes you more than 30 seconds to swap toons. Even on my laptop, it usually takes less.

In any case, that’s the grace period. If you can’t change that quickly, maybe try staying on the character that’s queuing. The system is designed to speed things along, so that folks aren’t waiting too long or changing things at the last minute.
