This problem appears to be an ongoing problem with installing the game and downloading updates in the central United States.

The issue is that patching will either come in extremely slowly (0-30KB/sec) on a 110Mbit connection, or that the connection will fall to 0KB/sec and the patching client becomes unresponsive and needs to be end-tasked in Windows.

I’m not sure how regions for patching are laid out by you guys, but my location is Chicago, IL.

The evidence that this issue is on the end of the patch servers is that if i sign in to VikingVPN in NYC i get 6-11MB/sec (megabytes, not kilobytes) on the exact same connection with the exact same settings.

I’m not sure what the issue is for the central US, but i’ve found multiple discussions around the internet about this issue going back as far as 2012. Perhaps you have a bad host, perhaps you have a huge number of users in this region and it simply overloads the infrastructure, but it is problematic.

If I didn’t know to try to hit other nodes in the CDN using the VPN, it would have taken me days to install the game, rather than an hour. If I could have installed the game at all… It was so bad before connecting to the VPN that I had to end task and restart the client 6 times.

I can do additional testing if needed, but all evidence points to this being on the end of the patch servers, and is severe enough that i believe it needs attention.

Same issue. I’ve restarted the client for patching 3 times now. Still gives “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” error after about a minute of trying to download the patch.

Is there a location to find the patch for manual download without the GW2 client?

Exact same issue. No luck after the third retry and modem/router reset, thinking it was initially on my end.

Same issue here, central USA. Hoping they can get it cleared up and I can actually get to be apart of the stronghold beta.

I usually keep this post on in my browser when its Gw2 update day. For the past 3 larger updates I’ve had this same issue. Also central USA. (Chicago area)
I used the example provided at the end of the post: -assetsrv 62.154.232.120

When I used the example it downloaded in less than 2 minutes. If it doesn’t work for you, try a lot of those others provided in the site they linked. Its been a different one almost every time for me.

I can’t find the post on here I originally got this from, but maybe you can find it through Google if you are still having trouble. Hope this helps.

Much thanks, this worked for me.

Before I was getting speed comparable to a dial-up modem. But making use of that command line switch, it’s back to patching at full speed.

I’m on the west coast and was having d/l issues as well (for the first time, too). This info fixed things for me. Thank you so much for sharing that link!
