1. My gf and I used a spicy pumpkin cookie each for costume brawl and neither 1 of us got the achievement.

2. I just won Belcher’s Bluff in Rata Sun and this did not count either.

There is a specific event every day now it seems. There is a games person in the Lion’s plaza in Lion’s Arch that will take you to the event of the day. On launch day it was the Sprint, today until reset it is Southsun Survival. Look for the icon of crossed flags in the plaza.

The games seem to count toward the daily even if you join too late for normal rewards, just as long as you play until they finish.
