I’d guess that something was messing with the download, and the client handled the error by crashing, because it’s “impossible” for it to break that way.

Like, some sort of web security thing or something like that? I’d check with them, and possibly whitelist HTTP requests from the GW2 client.

It’s the cause of most of the crashes experienced when installing.

have you tried disabling windows defender? sometimes that can cause the game to crash, and would probably do the same while installing

Sometimes, Lavasoft programs are hidden (especially piggy-back with Bing). You might try a deeper search than just the cursory first-level one.
