instances/grouping
AC Was having issues – Bugging – Not allowing other people into one another’s instance (Refusal to join). Could this be related?
I was about to try and post about this as well, but since it’s technically not a ‘bug’ according to ArenaNet, I wasn’t sure where to post about it.
Thing is, I think it IS a bug, and a very significant one. It’s affecting thousands of GW2 players.. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE how Arenanet encourages you to level with one another, to play with one another.. I love how your character downscales so you can play with someone who has freshly rerolled or made a new character, and there’s so many other fresh ideas in place that make it thoroughly fun. BUT! In this same breath, Guild Wars 2 makes it SO difficult to accomplish those ideas. I tried to introduce my boyfriend to the game yesterday, and after 20 minutes of us both trying to get into the same server, he gave up.
“I’m only playing to play with you.. and if I can’t do that, what’s the point?”
And he’s absolutely right. An MMO involves being able to play with one another, and if you can’t do this most primitive of things, ie, playing with your friends/etc, surely you’re better off in a single player?
I understand ArenaNet have a LOT on their plate right now, are a much smaller company than many other MMO creators and are dealing with things as fast as they can.. but I personally think this should be a priority issue. They’re going to lose a LOT of people if individuals are unable to join up ingame with the people that are the reason they bought the game to play with. I love Gw2, but have found my interest starting to slack PURELY because I can’t play with my friends.
Please sort this. I know it’s a tricky one, but tens of thousands of people will be very grateful for it!
I’ve totally given up on any guild-activity. I’m glad and happy if guild-chat works without a minute-long delay for everything I post.
I’m levelling with my wife and trying to get onto the same map as her is a pain already. But then, some activities just don’t work. Sometimes, one of us gets the invitation to the other’s personal story quest, sometimes it just doesn’t work and no amount of relogging, rezoning, waiting until we’re on the main map helps.
I hate to say it but until they fix this bug (hopefully soon), this is the least social MMO out there.
I have the same issue. A friend of mine and I always duo, but we can’t in this game. We almost never have the ‘Join’ option. We’ve tried everything we can think of: re-forming the group, re-logging, exit the game completely, and various combinations of those. No luck yet.
Has anyone got a reliable way to group with someone (so you’re in the same layer/phase/whatever-it’s-called)?
The best way to combat this is arenanet when overflow is happening during parties is to auto push party into overflow and only Party lead has access to put ur party into main flow or restrict dungeon in overflow state so that party cannot be broken up like that.
I believe blizzard had a similar task they fixed this problem by when ever dungeon was being entered everyone had to have done the pre quest for it to gain access to it sort of like a key quest. This instantly fixed this problem. Not shure what arena net is gonna do.

I’m sorry you guys are having trouble partying! Can you specify if you’re having trouble with dungeons, or just regular overflow maps? Also, are you just not seeing the “Join in” option when right-clicking their party UI? Or are you receiving a particular error?
We want you guys to be able to play together. Any additional information could be very helpful!
Thank you for your understanding.

What happened with me it’s when we do Party, then some enters, it will ask us for “Join Party in Dungeon”, we click Join and some members go for a diferent instance of Dungeon, and it’s a Pain to have them in the right one.
I can’t say about overflows becuase that happened in both cases. =/
Asura thing.
For me, I’m grouped with one other person. We’re both in the same server, same guild, same group. We don’t have the option to ‘Join’. This is just for regular play, not PvP or instances.
We keep logging out until one of us ends up in Overflow; once that happens, that person usually has the Join option.
I found the problem – it was my fault. Somehow I was on a different server. Once I transferred to the same server, it’s working fine.

thanks for the reply Allie
this certainly seems to have got better, although not idea still.
To answer your question: both. Attempting to join on overflow maps often either the option is not there, or if it is, you select join and nothing happens (no errors, just nothing).
The dungeon instancing was as described in my original post, again no errors just people ending up in wrong instances alone or similar. I saw in some patch notes that you believe this is fixed now, but we have not tested yet so i shall post back once we have.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, Allie. I was a bit of a wally and forgot to check back on this thread.
For me, it seems to be sorting itself out a bit, but it’s still not perfect..
I play on Gunner’s Hold – and regularly (try to!) play with four friends. However, all of their portraits are blacked (even if in the same ‘area’) and there is no ‘join in xx’ option. It simply isn’t there. One time it WAS there, and I clicked it, and it told me to check my internet connection. I can’t remember the specific error for that one now since it hasn’t happened since, but it would’ve been funny if it wasn’t so annoying!
It’s still happening though.. here’s an example.
Two days ago, myself and two friends decided to try and do a jumping puzzle together. Not strictly necessary, I know, but it’s fun to laugh at failure. :P One friend and I were on one overflow, and the third was on a different overflow. So when his queue popped for the main server (we were on skype – the queue popped at the same time for all of us) we agreed to hit ‘join’ and try and get on the same server together. Big mistake. :P Black portraits for all three of us, again. No one could see one another despite the fact I had been stood next to one of them seconds before, and there was no ‘Join’ option available. We ended up co-ordinating a relog, and by pure chance got onto the same overflow server together. Have to say though, instancing seems to have been fixed. Haven’t had an issue with that for a while. Just the ‘main world’.
Thank you so much for looking into this. For me, it’s my biggest peeve. I’ll come back and include some screenshots when it happens again.
