Q:
magic find boost is it working?
A:
Don’t misunderstand the figures. The fact that it increases the rate by 22% does not mean that you will get rare items from each mob with 22% chance (which is roughly 1 out of 4).
It means that if, for example, the rate for ItemA was 10%, with the 22% bonus the rate for you will now be
10% + (22% of 10%) = 12.2%.
I would also like to know if this works as intended.
A boost to magic find increases the player’s chance to receive rare loot from drops.
So i’m guessing it will not affect salvaging or reward items for achievement completion (though prize chests after boss fights/jumping puzzles technically still “drop” the loot).
Extending it to the age-old question…
When does the “Magic Find” trigger its effects? Common possibilities are:
- Upon tagging the mob
- Upon mob death
- Upon loot pick-up
- Must be wearing the MF gear for majority of the fight (time)
- Must be wearing the MF gear for majority of the fight (damage dealt)
Additional interesting questions:
Does it only affect the drop of certain types of items (like rare mats) or gives a blanket better chance for a higher rarity version (like greens over blues)?
Can the effect be shared in a party? As in, does it affect the mob, or the act of looting the remains?
Thanks!

Learn my name, or do not. The world will know it soon enough.
I found that Magic find helps get thing like large claws and say killing an eagle raptor. I have gotten a few rares while event chasing in Straights of detestation. I currently have %43 MF chance with gear, weapon and food buff on. It would be how ever nice to find out how it works considering the way the game distributes progress on a monster by how much you participate
In my experience I get more gems from mining, and have on occasion gotten an unidentified dye while herbing (?) but I’m only currently using Lemon Bars as I’m lvl 30. I feel like I get more blood and claws from mobs I kill, but the increase in gems may just be my imagination…
I’ve been obtaining far more mats with 20% boost compared to none at all, so I would say yes :P
SingerOfTheFall is right. It is clearly increases your global chance value by a percentage. If not, it would be ridiculous to have %50 chance to magic find.
Thank you people for clarification.
