My guy Rintle was able to use a recipe for a huntsman despite not being a huntsman. He’s a weaponsmith / leatherworker with 10 points in huntsman before switching. I wouldn’t care so much except the recipe was for a pistol that costs 425 geodes.

Any character can learn a recipe. Whether you can then use it to craft something depends on which discipline(s) said character has leveled.
