salvage-o-matic & monthly salvages?

Q:

So I’ve bought the copper-fed salvage-o-matic thinking I would never need any basic salvage kit again… until I noticed items salvaged with this robot does not count towards the monthly salvage uses.

Is this intended or a bug? If I had known this before I wouldn’t have put my money in it.
