story quest level 80 controlling the tank
I’m having the same problem. My quest is called “The Steel Tide”. Not sure if it’s the same for other routes chosen.
I also had problems when I did this quest a few days ago. I was getting knocked out of the tank but I realised it was the giant throwing rocks at me that was doing it. In the end I just used the mortars to take out the giants and the quest finally was beaten. You guys can try this for a work around until they fix it, gl.
Ps if I remember right there are 3 tanks, you can only use the middle one, make sure you are not trying to use one that a npc is using.
yes its the same quest, i tried to use the mortars to work around it for like 15 minutes but i dont quite get how to aim with them oh god it made me angry, i thought i cannot progress without the tank but ill try to struggle a little more then.
A tip – hold down the fire button to fire the mortar further.
The biggest problem for me on this part was that the collision detection between the player and the tank is very finicky. Getting close enough to take control of the tank’s weapon would often times mean being pushed back by the tank itself because you were physically halfway inside the object and I guess were colliding with it in an unstable way.
That, and the turret rotation behavior (whereby if you’re turning the turret while you break a connection with the tank, e.g. when hit by a giant’s boulder, the turret will keep turning without you) is quite annoying. The boulders/risen being able to break your connection with the tank makes sense as a mechanic for that mission, but the turret’s continued rotation afterwards seems like a bug, and only serves to waste time as you have to re-aim the turret every time if you’re not quick/careful. Ended up having to turn it in short pulses just because I knew I was going to get knocked back before I could fire.

I’m having the same issue, plus the client crashes about halfway through the quest after being knocked out of control of the tank and the turret over rotating. Happens every time around the same time. Seems like they should totally rework this part of the quest, or completely skip it temporarily until they can sort out the issue with taking control of the tanks. It’s just super frustrating to get to that point, and have the game crash at almost exactly the same moment, only to have to restart the entire quest.
p.s. the mortar solution doesn’t work for me, the far right mortar doesn’t rotate far enough right to hit the far right giant, so it just continues to bombard me, and all the friendly npcs until I get completely swamped by risen.
Totally broken quest, super annoying.
I personally got stuck on this quest for a long while. Until I got so frustrated I decided to scratch the Tank aka worthless, and scratch the Mortar aka worthless, and just went straight out on a killing giant spree. Killed 6 Giants manually (regular combat) and this forwarded the mission.
GL Everyone!!
