[RUC] Riverside United Corps! For Riverside!
(edited by Bomber.3872)
Dear Anet support,
we, the members of the riverside guild Flussufer United Corps [FUC] play in this guild since 2.5 years. We are a pure german guild only playing on riverside and we are active in the german community like wartower.de or gw2community.de.
Since last november we even looked here on the forums for new members. https://forum-de.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/Flussufer-FlussuferUnitedCorps-FUC-rekrutiert/first#post436958
So now we logged in on 9. mai 2015 after 2.5 years playing like every day and for no reason our guild tag changed to [UFC].
We hope there is just some wrong automatic parameter that created this bug and hope that you will change our tag name back to what it belongs.
After speaking with some people we figured that because of the (…megaserver system…) our tag might have been changed because it could for some american people sound like an familiar american word. If this is the reason we really hope that you change it back, because it makes no sense for us as germans and as far as we now it isn’t even similar in the american grammar…

Yeah, the reason your tag was changed is very likely because of how it’s close to the dreaded “f word” (and yes, it is similar; it only needs a K to finish the word). I mean, you could contact support to see if a change could be made, but I don’t know if they’d change it back.

They will not. If it any way resembles something they find offensive or against the terms of service, then they will not change it back, period.
If an American guild had a tag that was similar to an offensive word in another language, that tag would also be changed.

The thing is, we really would understand it if we would have newly created the guild or if we would be only something like 5 people or so and noone had ever seen our tag.
But the guild was created 2.5 years ago (I think something january 2013) and since then we have ever been 150-400 active playing people.
So after such an extremly long time (and we were really all over the place with public guildmissions and stuff writing all over thousands of mapchats/forums/ts) our guild tag happens to be a problem?
(I mean I and others even wrote here on the forums and on fansites where our guild tag was in the signature (or texts) and anet staff wrote directly under it or directly to us and never anyone of them mentioned a problem…)
We still would even understand it if anet just would say that now one person complained (for whatever reason) and that we have to change the name, but now we have a name and got from anet just some random tag (and this part sucks the most because we have some million influence and built up everything so we can’t just create a new guild with a new name+tag and build up everything again).

You will need to take it up with the CS Team. You aren’t really allowed to dispute actions on the forums.
Good luck.
Bomber. the guild i just left recently had a guild name change forced upon them as well, including the guild tag. We had been around since pre release, it took us just as much by surprise. The CS team wont change it back, im sorry!
AFAIK, CS is able to change the guild tags instead of just disbanding guilds now, which your situation confirms, so be thankful yours wasn’t deleted entirely…
But per post here, doesn’t matter how long you had it, etc., when it is seen by Anet it will be acted upon.

Big thanks Lunacy Solacio^^ I searched for some dev post on this matter and couldn’t find anything helpfull, so your link really helps
I really don’t agree with parts of what gaile wrote but we can understand this way of handeling such matter. We contacted CS, maybe they let us at least change/choose our name/tag ourself.
With that knowledge from the post above it seems that it wasn’t just some bad automatic mechanic (so no bug^^) and it looks more that a real human looked at this and tried to give us a most helpful way on this matter. (if they would have just deleted it after 2.5 years, that would have sucked way more )

Just want to give an update and that it is solved.
After we contacted CS Team, we had really luck to get a very friendly and helpfull support staff. We asked the support if they could rename the whole guild because of these special circumstances (after 2.5 years).
Luckly Anet agreed in this special case to rename it, so now our guild name is [RUC] Riverside United Corps.
