Why in the holy hell does someone think its a great idea to let vet, champ, and legendary mobs suddenly go back to their spawn and regen to full health in the middle of a fight? I was soloing a champion in a frac today and it took a while but I finally got it down to about 70% health from pistol kiting/poisoning/agony and stealthing… because I’m a thief… and then he just gains full health in the middle of the fight.

That’s horse kitten! >:(

I wouldn’t call it “cheating” but a known (and programmed) behavior of every spawned enemy in the game. I’m not sure of the reasoning behind it but even normal enemies will do this if you lead them too far from their spawn locations (or SOME pre-programmed location on the map). If I had to guess, this is designed like this so you can’t lead a difficult foe to a group of NPCs for an easy (or assisted) kill.

It certainly sucks when you spend 10 minutes wearing down a Champ (happened to me a few weeks back with the Svanir Beast Champ in North Wayfarer). I’ve never seen (or bothered to ask for) an official reason as to why enemies do this but consider this a “learning” experience….

It’s a very common programmed behavior in MMO’s to prevent players from dragging npcs and mobs across the map. Every mob has a predetermined ‘leash’ distance, at which point they’ll return to their default state and location and ‘reset’.

Unfortunately, sometimes it can be erroneously triggered – primarily when a mob can’t figure out how to path to you. If your distance is greater than the leash distance (infinity in those cases), they will leash.

Try not to stand on random objects, debris or odd terrain that could cause this. I have had mysteriously unexplained leashes too, and those are definitely bugs.

I’ve also found that while soloing with a thief, often times you will have an enemy toward the end of their ‘leash’ radius and then stealth which will reset the enemy’s aggro. When this happens, they will often ignore your attacks after breaking stealth and reset, sometimes even going invulnerable. It sucks for certain to see 10-15 minutes of nearly flawless play go down the drain because you stealthed 100 ft outside of where you had an ‘aggro lock’. This has happened to me several times in dungeons after the rest of my party had wiped with only a few HP % left on the boss. while whitling away the last few hitpoints (less than 1%), I LOSed the boss and stealthed b/c I had two seconds left on my heal. /sigh Boss breaks aggro resets and I ran after him to no avail has his health climbed back up to full.
