Caledon Forrest and Iron Marches both have this issue turn to go south and the mini map pointer always points to North when you begain to move. its very confusing to say the least
By chance does the mini map rotate when you turn around? There is an option that you can turn on Rotation, that option causes the pointer to always point up while the map rotates. Hover on the right side of mini map and 3 4 icons will appear on bottom, click the one with an arrow to toggle that option. More about it on http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Graphical_user_interface#Compass (option called Toggle Rotation).
