Liking posts without liking them
You can remove the up-vote by clicking on the +1 from the list in your profile. I’ve come across threads where the poster inserted some javascript to automatically upvote it whenever it was viewed, but I haven’t noticed posts I’ve never looked at getting upvoted. I’m checking my list now…

If so, those users should be permanently banned from the forums.
I’ve noticed several post marked as liked, when I haven’t given them a ‘thumbs up’, as well. And how can you check a post you have never viewed without viewing it? (To see if the auto-upvote is present.)

Through your forum profile list of things you’ve up-voted. The way they’re extracted from the thread excludes the Javascript. If you open the permanent link in another browser tab and it up-votes itself, I would report it to the moderator so they can scrub the javascript from it. You can see it with “inspect element” in Chrome.

I just checked my up-voted history and my conclusion would be that it is more of a display error. I have noticed many times that the +1 button was greyed out on new posts that I have just viewed (usually the OP of a new thread).
However if all of these would be shown in my up-vote history then that list would be considerably longer.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
@Pandemoniac
I meant, how could you tell if a post shows you have upvoted it, if you have never been to the thread to see the post that is upvoted? I know how many posts I have upvoted, lol, a grand total of three. So, you are saying if a post shows the ‘thumbs up’ greyed out, it has auto upvote just from opening the page? And we are to report all these posts? Because it happens quite often, and they never show up in our profile history.
edit: change ‘thumbs up’ to ‘plus one’

If it doesn’t show up in your profile on the list of posts you have up-voted, it’s probably just a display bug. I haven’t run into that problem. I ran into a different issue where the creator of the thread thought it would be cute to inject javascript that caused everyone who looked at the thread to up-vote it. That post I reported.

Ahh. Thus, why we are posting in the Forum and Website Bugs forum. Lol.
After reading through this thread, I believe there may be a misunderstanding of icons.
The thumbs up icon is not an indicator that you have voted on a post. It is an indicator of popularity (with star, without star or no thumbs up) based on votes from all users either across the forum or within a thread (with a red underline or not)
The only indicator that you have voted for a post is that the +1 button turns gray.

It is true, I often open up new threads (threads I haven’t read yet) and the +1 button itself shows already grey for me as if I had previously voted. I’ll try to get you a screenshot if that helps?
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
A screenshot would be nice, but also a direct link to the post in question would also be helpful.
I just had this happen with a post that was quoting the one before it. I clicked +1 on the first post and the +1 button turned grey on the original post and the one quoting it.
For the record, they’re the two posts right after my own on https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Arrow-carts-can-hit-inside-without-zoomhacks/first

Do you mean that you up-voted this post and it appeared to up-vote the post that quoted it ?
I tried doing the same thing, and while I didn’t see the other icon greyed out, I am having trouble getting my up-vote to “stick” with that first post. Even though I click the button and it goes grey, it doesn’t show up in the list in my profile.
I’m at work, so I don’t have my tools to poke around the page source… I’ll see if I can find more information when I get home.
Well the posts have been merged into a larger thread, so I can’t replicate the issue. If anyone else notices the problem, post the thread and maybe we can figure out if it happens for everyone or just some folks.

Ok, I used the wrong terminology. Never any thumbs up are on the posts. Just that when I open a page in a forum, I come across posts with the +1 button already greyed out, whereas I have never voted for the post, nor even seen the post before. Not sure why certain post show this odd behaviour, it is a small percentage. Not sure how to take a screenshot nor how to post it here, but next time it occurs, I will try to do so.
I went to the arrow-cart thread, no odd already-greyed out posts there, so whatever is happening there is unrelated to my and the OP’s issue.

Reading this thread I scrolled back up to find the button greyed out. I did not “like” this thread and it does not show in my upvoted history either.
Hope it helps.
Edit: Navigating there again shows the +1 now again in red – so I assume it’s just a display error.

I will hopefully be able to send you a link to a post where it happens exactly the first time I’m looking at a thread – those are the ones I notice the most.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Finally
Just opened the thread (for the first time) and noticed the button greyed out right away.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Separation-between-EU-and-US-servers
Edit: And after navigating to the thread a second time it still stayed grey.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
And that thread has no ‘greyed-out’ buttons for me. I have no idea what causes some posts to show ‘liked’ (even several in the same thread) when one hasn’t ‘liked’ them, at all.
I just had this happen again, this time with the first post at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/WvW-Awesome-Balance/first

Three in a row, stayed gray after revisiting the post.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
I find this happening more and more often. I enter a thread, find grey-out buttons. Check my history, none of the posts are listed in my ‘posts liked by…’. If I click on the grey button to turn it back to red, the post is then entered into my history of ‘posts liked by…’.
So, I have to go back and turn it grey again, to remove that post.
I have found, however, that refreshing the page often gets rid of this anomaly of having posts liked by me before I’ve even read them.

Yes, it just doesn’t seem to be consistent. Looking at the last thread I had screenshot last now all is correct and the +1 field shows red as it should. Hopefully they’ll find the reason for this display glitch, I’m sure it can be confusing for some.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
I don’t know if it’s a similar issue, but I’ve been encountering a problem with the +1 system, too.
My problem, however, is that when I do click the +1, it doesn’t stay greyed out after reloading the page.
I don’t know if they’re related or not. Just thought I’d mention it.

This is still happening, and also many of the posts that I have +1’ed are still marked red.

Same, posts like buttons will sometimes be gray the first time I even look at a thread. Liking something doesn’t change the color, however those may still show up as liked in my history.
Edit: like this post here. The like button was grayed out the first time I looked at the thread.

One thing that is really irritating in GW2 are the pop-up windows for things like overflow servers and the end of Fractals (Ready screen).
Please for the love of god, Can’t you have them pop-up on the right side of the screen (the achievements panel) so they are out of the way.
For me it’s really annoying that you complete a fractals and then get a huge window pop-up in the middle of the screen saying “are you ready to move on?” They should add a button that says “I will be as soon as I can see where the EFFING chest is.” Problem is because the window is so big, it obscures your view so you can’t really see where you’re going… They may as well just switch the screen to BLACK with a huge “READY” button and have you guess where the chest is… that’s kinda how it feels now!
Rant over!
Edit: and this one. New post showed the like button was grayed out.

why should this game ever raise the level cap? Your character level scales according to content in most parts of the game, raising the max level would barely change anything save a metric ton of extrawork for developers rebalancing builds and abilities.
