Any way to get a refund for this game?
…Normally beta tests are free, no?
If the game were in beta you’d be correct. But the game is live. Only the mac client is in beta. You shouldn’t buy a game based on the beta client and expect it to work 100%.
What you’re saying pretty much is; it’s my fault for being stupid enough to pay money for a beta-client. I’d have to agree, lesson learned. But I’d like my money back if possible.
And I never expected it to work 100%. However, I did expect it to run for more than 5 minutes without going to a black screen and crashing.

The client is nothing to do with your problems, I run this game at nearly its highest settings and do not get black screen crashing. I did with a lesser graphics card but the problem was resolvable by lowering the graphics settings and screen resolution.
Game Beta testing maybe free, but that phase of this game is over, now it is only the client.
Do not forget most Mac people who bought this game where either running it under WIndows In Bootcamp where it works fine, or under a Wine wrapper where it had problems but it did run. Then Arenanet suddenly dropped a Cider wrapped game client which does work OK with only minor irritants as long as your machine and internet access can handle it.
Apart from your machine specs in the other post what is your graphics card and how good is your internet access ?

No need for a refund but regarding specs I just want to know when this beta will end from what I’m getting ( note this is opinion ) this Beta is going to be 5 or 6 more months, and sadly if thats the case my system won’t matter if I upgrade from my GT 8800 to a HD 5770 on my Mac Pro 1,1 my processors are fine I have 2 × 2Dual Core 2 Ghz Xeon the key is Xeon there not ment for gaming per-say there just stable processors, but I’m worried if I get the HD 5770 it won’t make any difference I have yet in the past 3 months no one has an answer if that upgrade will help at all, yes I need 10.7 witch I can get btw.
If you want to try getting a refund then use ArenaNet’s support channel:

I suggest that you be very nice to them and just let them know that you purchased the game to play on your Mac but have found it unplayable due to the client, would it be possible to be refunded.
If you start off by being rude then they’re probably less likely to be civil. I’m sure they will understand though.
Again, you did not pay for the mac client. That argument isn’t going to ring any bells for ANet support.

You paid for the rights to play a game… That right exists regardless of which client you are using. The point is that Arenanet have said that the game is available to play on OSX, and regardless of the fact that the client is in beta, the game has to be playable in order to be serving the purpose that it was paid for…
What you are pretty much saying is that all we have paid for is access to data on the servers, but thats ridiculous, you pay for the right to play the game. Anet have a list of technical specifications and they are actually very understanding people… If a product does not function as advertised or as a consumer is led to believe then they are entitled to a full refund, replacement or repair – refund being the viable option here..
It is the law.

Vince, what are you talking about? Are you being very technical or something?? Because in order to download the client, I had to make an account. In order to make an account, I had to PAY for a CD-Key… Sooo, yeah… I had to pay to use the mac client.
They should really open this up as free-to-play for Mac users during this beta-phase… It seems like I’m one of the many who are having problems, and can pretty much not even play the game for more than 5-minutes between crashes. Which is just too frustrating for me to continue dealing with.
Anyways, thank you, FlamingFoxx, for your constructive and helpful reply. I’ll do that and may return a couple months down the road to see if this game has become playable for my computer— which, I must add, has; plenty of processing power, memory, and an expensive graphics card to boot. The thing is pretty much brand new.

Can I ask what your system specs are? I get really good performance on both my MBP and my iMac (although this weekend was bad but thats because of the event).
I understand your thinking with wanting them to offer mac users the ability to play for free during the clients beta, but it isn’t logical and it can’t work. That would be like saying “Oh by the way, anyone who has a mac can play the game for free with absolutely no restrictions. If you have windows… Well you’ll have to buy it”, Anet has to profit somehow xD.
Danq, allow me to explain.
You bought the PC client. You did not buy the Mac client. When you purchased the game, the version of the game you purchased (whether it was a DVD box or an online purchase) was for the PC version. The Mac client is in Beta and is included as a bonus to current PC users for testing purposes so they can eventually release a standardized Mac client.
If you go to support saying you bought this game solely to use it on a Mac and purchased it as a Mac product, there’s a chance you’ll be met with “But the game is only a Mac beta. Sorry, we can’t refund your money.” I’m not trying to be a butt about it here. I’m simply trying to assist you in being aware of the outcomes here since the Mac client is an unfinished product that you technically did not directly pay for.
Also, please list your entire system specs.

Absolutely nowhere does it say you are purchasing the game as the PC client, because it’s simply not true.
You are purchasing the right to play the game based on your computers meeting of the minimum technical requirements and purchasing the right to access the data associated with the game and create an account and play on it.
The matter of the fact is that Arenanet have released a Mac client and, regardless of whether or not the client itself is in beta, have advertised the game as being available on mac .

Right there they specifically say they are now supporting GW2 for mac – support extends to consumer rights… Therefore entitled to refund.
Welcome to the MMO genre where games are released in beta state. With all due respect, but your expectations were wrong. With Aion I didn’t play a minute in the first month. With WoW the first YEAR was riddled with lag, framedrops and bugs. With GW2 the core game is playable.

I’d say go and ask. You never know what they might say till you ask.

If this is on a Mac book then it is probably just over heating. I had the same kitten happen to me till I changed the thermal paste.

That’s funny. I run on a MacBook Pro Mid-2010 and I’ve never overheated. Danq’s problem sounds like a faulty logic board. Again, we need to know what GPU he has in his rig. If it’s not a dedicated GPU then he shouldn’t be playing on it.
