Client crashes in WvW since last patch
Yes I’m having the same issue. Always something to do with .pbits or whatever. It says it sends a report to ArenaNet, but this has been going on for the last couple months now. Getting to the point where I don’t want to play WvW because I keep crashing.
iMac 2010 Core i7 2.93 GHz / 16GB / ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB / OS X 10.8.2
Keeps crashing, now it’ll crash when more as 20 players are in the area and the client has to render them. The bad thing is, no stacktrace will be printed out and no informations will be send to ArenaNet.
lockedRect.pBits crashes, to be more precise.
I haven’t seen this crash around in awhile. (not since a week after the culling patch) I don’t think Anet really responded to this one. I’m thinking you may actually need a ticket. If you do submit a ticket, please post back here what they tell you and how it was fixed.
I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful, but I don’t think our troubleshooting steps will help. If you want to try them still, let me know, I’ll post them up. Please keep us updated if you file a ticket and what the fix is.
Yes I’m having the same issue. I already submitted the ticket, hope it can be fixed as soon as possible.
From what I’ve observed it’s a crash caused by a system bottleneck, which would be why it happens during large events and in WvW. Your system is trying render a whole lot of characters at once and it struggles with it – so it crashes. Can I suggest making sure you have both the WvW settings as low as possible (by default they aren’t quite as low as they can be), obviously that’s not ideal, but as a temporary fix it’s your best option.
If you’re playing on a laptop try elevating it off a surface like a desk and instead having it on a stand, keeping the laptop cooler will actually help a bit. Unfortunately at the moment we just have to deal with this
My case even worst then, it crashed when I playing Pve without lots of action. It just keep crashing after playing the game about 10 mins.
Anthony, could you post your system specs please? And list any other symptoms that occur prior to the crakitten might also be helpful if you check your crash logs in console to see if any errors/events correspond with the times you crash. (I found the source of my constant code 7 disconnects that way and haven’t had it since… Unless the server has gone down or lagged out lol)
Hi, my Mac Book Pro spec: OS X 10.8.4 i7 2.2 16 GB RAM Graphic: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1GB RAM. I recently upgrade to 10.8.4 and the error code is 5 (don’t know what exactly mean). Hope I could have some hints. Thanks a lot.

Your system is almost identical to mine and while I experience issues I wouldn’t say they are incredibly frequent. Are you making sure to quit all other apps while you run GW2? and have you tampered with any of the GW2 settings files?
I already submitted the ticket and the support instructed me to delete the GW2 folder and the problem still exist , then they instructed me to delete the local.dat file & .plist file. Again, the problem persist, I have no idea what went wrong except I updated the OSX to 10.8.4 recently.

Updating to 10.8.4 won’t have had any effect.
Have you tried lowering the graphics settings? I know it’s not always ideal, but in this case it might be one of the few things that will help.
Error code 5 seems like a conflict somewhere. Make sure you temporarily disable any antivirus and firewall software (even on your modem/router, sometimes those are enabled by default). Unless you are on a public connection, then you may have a problem. Please post back regarding if any of the steps listed below helped, about your internet connection, crash logs (not just the Anet one), etc.
Have you checked your console/crash log yet?
~~~Also, try running a few of these steps, particularly, 1,2,3,5, try 4 again as a last resort after the others if no good (length warning, but please read each step completely):
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
Thanks all, I will try those steps. I bet there is something conflicts with the program. Hope that will fix the issue. Thanks all again.
Hi all, I am not sure what happened. I went to apple service and what they did only scan the hardware and try to reinstall 10.8.4. Since I haven’t do the back up , so I did not reinstall the OS yesterday and do the backup first. When I went back home to join GW2 game, it did not crash for over an hour and run smoothly. Now I guess I need to wait the new driver of my gaming mouse, it seems doesn’t’t work properly in 10.8.4. Thanks all again.
Disapointed, that after level 39, my game client keeps crashing in various higher level areas repeatedly. I hate to say it but you haven’t worked out all your bugs and its becoming unplayable.
