fps drop with patch
What fps do you guys get with an iris pro gpu?
My FPS issues are fixed, WvW is playable again.
There are some minor glitches though, new to me at least and don’t know if they’re old or reported; I just never got them till now. Occasionally, skill icons, buffs or even character portraits on the selection screen start flickering.
Also, I way-pointed to a map (sparkly fen) and the screen just glitched and got stuck with the loading screen picture still in view and mob names leaving a trail across the screen. I opened the map and used another way-point, it happened again, but got fixed on the next WP and didn’t happen again for now. Forgot to SS.
Any similar reports or is my GW2 just hexed?

I have had a similar thing when enter LA in the past, but then the map loaded, but when I move image didn’t change (except for minimap cursor) and then eventually it would give me the correct image, don’t know if its a mac problem or if it also(or only) happened when running in bootcamp…
Yeah, the flickering bug is really old (used to be much more common too). I haven’t experienced it in months, myself. It isn’t just a mac problem (not sure if Macs get it more often than Windows users, though).
I have to say; I don’t think it’s fixed.
better, for sure, but not fixed.
a month ago I would get 25-35 fps in wvw zerg battle
a week ago it was 1-4 fps
last night I was getting 10-15 fps in LA zerg
sure, not the same zerg. this living story might has a more dense zerg, which could account for it. Is anyone completely fixed? or did it simply go from unplayable to playable?

Well i did some WvW last night in some of the battlegrounds and in EB as well as the new Mists zones with full eye candy (auto detect defaults) and was getting 30+ fps in those areas with some pretty beefy fights .. so I am happy .. it seems better on the mac now than before as I often had to disable things like AA and post processing as well as turn down the shader settings etc..
I havent had the time to go wvw, only went to LA for a total of maybe 2 hours since release, so I can’t really tell if everything is fixed, but i got 6fps before at the golem with only 7 other players, so if i can do LA now and not even feel the need to check fps I consider it fixed for me…
I’m having the same experience as Mystic. Better, but still not great.
We’re glad that most of you have noticed performance improvements following the Mac fixes that were part of the February 18th update. Rest assured, team members are continuing to work on Mac!
We forgot to include a note about this work in the update notes and we apologize for that lapse. The FPS changes were an official part of the build, not a happy accident or a stealth update. (Just in case you were wondering. ) We should have included a call-out about it in the notes and in the future, we’ll do our best to outline Mac improvements in the Update Notes to keep you better informed of the progress that the team is making.

I don’t know if one of the mini patches changed anything but I didn’t crash at all in LA today (I used to crash literally every 10 minutes which was kind of annoying). I wasn’t around the zerg as much so it may just be that.

Was definitely considering it a happy accident, not just because it wasn’t in the patch notes but because it took you guys three days to update us here on the forums that this was a legitimate update.
If you want to change the attitude of this community then you guys need to stop treating us like second class citizens. We need updates, we need to know that issues are being worked on, and at some point we need an actual dedicated team, not some random rotation of “who got stuck working on the Mac this week” system.
Before this patch my frame rate used to hover between 5 and 15 fps. Ever since the patch I have noticed an increase which put me at 20-60 fps with 10-20 in highly populated areas (to be expected)
Obviously I am pretty happy about this change but seeing others struggle with the changes makes me feel obligated to ask if there is any feedback I can send anywhere.
The patch made the game playable again for me and i hope improvements will continue to be made without sacrificing others.
Wierdest part however is that I am not playing on a mac. But rather a PC. Thought this might be worth noting.
Though better I would not say this problem is fixed. Running around with the zerg now in LA I am still getting max around 20fps at medium/low settings whereas before this whole ordeal I could get a solid 30-40 at max. I appreciate the improvement but I’d also like to think there is still an effort to at least get us back to where we were before. On another note (and maybe this requires a new topic) My game seems to be crashing about every other run into LA after this latest patch. Normally I’d just restart and not worry to much about it. But seeing as how this now leads to continuously be kicked to empty cross server overflows it really is quite aggravating. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?

Keep in mind that using your FPS in LA at the moment is NOT a good indicator. The flame effects cause serious performance decreases, not to mention there are rather a lot of people in very concentrated areas for this event.
Well, I have not tried out WvW yet, but the main boss events are doing quite well again. Many thanks, this improved my overall enjoyment of the game pretty much. ^^
Gaile, did the dev or testing team do benchmarking with comparisons of performance prior to the patch that killed our fps and the new one? If so, what were the results?

This may indeed be true. I will know for sure during our guilds Teq encounter tomorrow and will report back.
I noted a frame rate increase in WvW zergs but not a sufficient improvement. My frame rate prior to Edge of the Mists update was 15 to 20 fps in the largest WvW zergs with low but not minimum graphics settings. After the update it dropped to 4 to 6 fps even with lowest graphics settings. Following the patch on February 18th my WvW frame rate is about 10 or 11 fps in largest zergs on lowest graphics settings. Most functions are blocked are seriously diminished in large zergs at this frame rate as timing is essential for zerg busting. This is not fixed.
Yeah, it doesn’t seem to be fully fixed, but it is at least semi playable. For me it was something like
15 fps + crashes → less than 1 fps → 10 fps + very frequent crashes → 10 fps (I haven’t had a crash yet but they could just be hiding)
I think people are right in that, while it is playable now, it is not up to the performance we had before. I didn’t do any benchmarking previously, but my fps was not something I noticed in big groups in wvw previously. Now, it gets on the edge of still playable and it is noticeable. I’ve been dipping down to 12fps in large groups on a late 2013 iMac.
Processor 3,4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB
And, yes, I get the crashes all the time, to, but those messages say they are being automatically reported.
And an update, I’m back to crashing. Sigh.
Great, i try to play WvW after the “fix” and i get… 1-5 fps ¡¡yay!! (15-20 pre-patch)
I use Linux so i can’t ask for help, but kitten, wth did you do to make the game so unplayable? If you could give me a hint i could go and open a bug in WINE so they can “adapt” to the changes.
I guess WvW is over for me, and if i can’t go to WvW… well, don’t know what to do ^^"
So a week or so later things are still very playable however our old friend the “lockedRect.pBits” error in WvW has come back .. sorta mildly annoying.. but it seems now it takes a much more massive zerg on zerg on zerg fight with very aggressive fighting going on to trigger it.. I will try altering the shaders/lighting/AA settings one by one to see if it helps make it go away like the past.
Let us know which settings seems to minimize the crashing. Thanks.
Does anyone else feel like their FPS has declined since the patch first hit. I feel like I was getting +10-15 FPS in Living Story LA when the patch first hit now it seems almost like it was before… I haven’t had any extra apps open and I usually restart my machine before running Guild Wars ( it seems to help make Gem Store and such run better). I’ve optimized my cider config for my video card. Just curious if it’s just me or if it’s real…
Ok, here’s a new update to the update:
The devs have developed a fix that should address certain performance issues you have been posting about, and that fix will be rolled out after testing is completed.
That’s not months from now, by the way. Testing is underway!
Mac client confirmed ! (and not a beta one)
How’d you come up with that?

Sense the Escape from Lions Arch update, performance has took a drastic dive. lowered all graphics settings, have submitted multiple crash reports. So, incredibly, INSANELY FRUSTRATING.

Desperation?

depending on how zergy wvw is .. you may have to set your graphic settings to “best performance” then up the “render sampling” to native and perhaps the character model limit .. (see my screenshot for what settings I am using now in wvw)
here is what I am using now and it seems to be holding up in the most zergy vicious 3 way zerg fights.. if you are not involved with massive zerg on zerg on zerg battles and just say small man or havoc then you can probably use “auto detect” and be ok with no CTD/lockedRect.pBits error .. but if you have nearly all the players in the borderland all fighting in close proximity it will probably crash to desktop with the lockedRect.pBits
(note I don’t really “do” PVE or the livingworld stuff so I can’t speak to how any of those settings impacts those zones )
Also i’ve noticed that, just having the game launcher open, without even logging in through the launcher, is causing either my computer or internet to get laggy. This has been going for 3 days. I have the launcher open in the background, planning on playing within the next 30 minutes… next thing I know, NONE of the webpages in safari will load, all my youtube videos stop loading. Everything else on my computer still works, with the exemption of ANYTHING requiring the internet connection.
Would REALLY like it if devs could just make this game so its PLAYABLE on macs. It seems every second update, mac users get screwed over in performance or connection issues. At this point I’m almost willing to pay to play ESO if THEY HAVE A kittenING NATIVE MAC VERSION OF THE GODkitten GAME!

tnx anet, so great how you guys check the Mac client … back to 5 fps after the update, unplayable once more and I bet 10 days plus until fixed … for a game I dumped like 300$+ I would expect more … wtf …
Did they seriously revert the fix?
Edit: my performance is okay but I’m still getting the constant crashes which makes it exceedingly difficult to play for obvious reasons. So i’m still using my windows partition and still not buying anymore gems.

am getting the “lockedRect.pBits” error/crash since the last patch. happened twice in the middle of new LS boss fight (both times was the “green” knight).
also frequently (even before this latest patch but still with it) sometimes crashes would actually restart my computer which is just insane. not sure if that was the “lockedRect.pBits” error or not since…my computer restarted…
i’m using a macbook pro retina with os x 10.9.2, 2.7 ghz core i7 and 16bg ram. this shouldn’t be happening.

This is happening to me, too. I’ve put my iMac specs in a post above. Can’t finish the event because I crash every time and then come back to an empty overflow. And yes, it has crashed my computer twice in addition to just the game crashing. Was this patch tested on macs? It crashes constantly. I was excited to do the end of this living story, but it’s just a pain with non-stop technical issues.
Also, the fix was never really a complete fix, but an improvement over broken. Are you guys still working on the performance because it is not the same as it was before you broke it.
(edited by ananda.5946)
exactly this. keeps happening to me at second knight with large zerg. awful.
The same is happening with my Mac and it always happens on the green knight in LA. Just over halfway through fighting it and the “lockedRect.pBits” crash happens. It’s also been happening to my girlfriends game, and honestly she doesn’t want to play anymore. It’s not worth putting in so much effort to get kicked out and left in a zone with absolutely no one fighting in some random overflow.
- We don’t have a “PC Team” and a “Mac Team.”
Please don’t read that the wrong way. That means we don’t have a team for each discipline, but that anyone on our team may work on either. This is a good thing, as far as I can see.
Do you see all of the forum traffic since the last update from the devs and the forum moderators doing their best to help all of the PC players with all of their issues? We’re not getting any of that and that is a problem.
Can you give us an update, any update at all, as to whether or not any of the issues that have arisen in the most recent patch (most of which are old problems that have simply come back) are being worked on?
Really frustrating that ANet is so quiet after you making all of these claims about them caring about the Mac players and that they have “big things” in store for us in 2014. So far it’s been nothing but business as usual.
I am not sure if this has been mentioned, but has everyone running Mavericks disabled App Nap for GW2?
Right click the GW2 application → Get Info → Tick Prevent App Nap.
Or from the console.
defaults write com.transgaming.guildwars2 NSAppSleepDisabled -bool YES
It helped my FPS quite a bit.
“lockedRect.pBits” drop your graphics settings .. see my screenshot in the post above .. if you are getting that error your settings are too high for anything other than simple pve with no other player in the area and perhaps one small npc
I was just made aware of this thread, and I’m sorry we didn’t post sooner!
Can you please create a NEW thread, and post your issues? If you use this sort of title — FPS Issues after March 4 Build — it will be easier for us to sort out who is experiencing this issue, and more tidy to answer the newest set of issues.
I will ask if we can look into this, but a separate thread would help so much!
Thank you.

I just tried this, not only did it not help. But my game promptly shut itself off, almost immediately.
