Guild Wars 2

First off I wanted to say thank you so much!

However a major issue I have come across is the use of function keys in this game. For Macs, the function keys are pretty vital for things such as volume control and screen brightness. When I’m playing my mesmer and I go to shatter my illusions, my illusions sadly do not shatter. Instead, I toggle my screen brightness.

In order to bypass this feature we have two options:

1. Hold the “fn” key every time we wish to use the f1-f4 abilities in game.
2. Go into the systems panel and turn these functions off, so that in order to use the default functions, we must use the “fn” key and the corresponding function button.
3. Remap the f1-f4 abilities.

Option 1 clearly is not viable. While option 2 is perfectly viable, it is not the prefered method, as it is quite the inconvenience outside of gaming. And personally I don’t believe rebinding keys should be the go to answer, as it isn’t for many people.

What I suggest is this:
Give us an option to disable the default functions while in game so that we may more easily use the f1-f4 abilities without having to change the system preferences every time we wish to play. Other games such as Starcraft II have done this so I believe it is something that could be implemented in Guild Wars 2.

This sounds like a great idea. Temporarily overmapping the function keys would make it work.

My main’s a Mesmer, and I don’t shatter much, but on my Elementalist alt (where I switch attunements by the moment) this is a game killer.

EDIT: On the mouse zoom, you can uncheck the option “Mac Beta: Use scrolling gestures to change direction” and your mouse wheel will work as normal.

Alternatively, you can use FunctionFlip to flip F1-4 to function keys and keep the rest (e.g. volume) as the special keys.

Not the best compromise if you use those four special keys regularly but it may help some people.

That’s a sweet suggestion, thanks for the link. I’ve enabled Fn-support for now, but if it annoys me I’ll grab the app.

It can be handy to rebind them to shift-1 through shift-4 anyway, to make them easier to hit (at least for me – was doing this in bootcamp already).
