Open Finder
On the menu bar, look under “Go”, hold the alt/option key, select the folder that appears (“Library”)
Open the “Application Support” folder
Move the Guild Wars 2 folder to the desktop (just in case)
Start up Guild Wars 2, it will create a new Guild Wars 2 folder again
Gray Screen Solution
1 2
Thank you for this information!
This fixed my issue, which was a black screen with the cursor visible and turning in to a hand when hovering over where the character normally is displayed. Not sure if that is the same thing as the gray screen, but I figured it’s worth tossing out there.
That . . . worked. Nice, thanks for the tip buddy. You’re a lifesaver.
Sweet thanks many
Thanks Useless Tactics ! It’s work !
Thanks did it and it worked
Thanks a lot, worked like a charm, for me and a friend!
That worked for me! Thank you so very much! <3

Worked just fine. 2 thumbs up
thanks! worked for me
Now it says it can’t even open the file. I’m playing on Snow Leopard. It was fine before the patch. Did the patch cancel out any Snow Leopard players for ever?
did not work for me at all

Yeah, this didn’t work for me either. Any other advice, it was playing well before last nights update.
If you’re currently running Lion OSX;
- Open Finder
- Click the “Go” tab at the top
- Then down to “Go to Folder”
- Enter “~/library”
You should see Application Support.
If you still need help, don’t hesitate to message me.

Now it appears to have worked, Thank you.
thanks Useless Tactics, worked like a charm!
Can someone screenshot the process and show me if I’m doing it wrong or something? This is getting kind of irritating.
WOrked for me, thanks a ton!
For anyone who can’t find the GW2 folder through the first two options here’s a screeny of where and how I found mine. Just have to manually go to the Application Support folder.
Please I need some help I´m on OSX 10.8.2 and I can´t find the folder. I go to my HD/Library/Application Support but there is no Guild Wars 2 Folder here. And If I go to my home screen there is no Library folder only desktop, downloads…. I try to reinstall the game but nothing changes.
Thanks for the help it´s like a joke the silence this silence from ArenaNet….
also by searching with the search application support can not find it, any alternatives?
^ Same problem here. I wonder where all my Gw2 files went and how I can still launch the game without a game folder in sight. I still get a grey screen though.

Same issue, is there some way to… download the information stored in this folder? Something?
thanks for the solution!
Tho i ve done a stupid mistake, when i havent read your post precisely(havent used alt+cmd to find library folder), which basically ve forced me to reinstall game(you kno, just in case).
I came to this window but there is no GuildWars 2 folder the only folder I have is the GuildWars2 application.
Any idea please?
I also can find no GW2 folder in Application Support, running 10.8.2. Same problem just white screen with game cursor, already tried updating and reinstalling
I worked, thanks a million!
If you can’t find the GW2 under ~/Library/Application Support/ you might have to enable hidden files/folders. Keep in mind GW2 is under ~/Library/Application Support/ and not /Library/Application Support/. To enable hidden files/directories just open up terminal and enter the following command..
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
Then restart Finder.
To disable hidden files just do..
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
Hope this helps.
Great job. This worked. Thank you very much, Useless Tactics.
It sounds a little sarcastic when I thank you by name. :P
Really thanks though.

This command, for what ever reason is not working in my Terminal for Snow Leopard.
What did work to show hidden files was
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
(enter, then type and enter)
killall finder
To reverse this:
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
(enter, then type and enter)
killall finder
That being said, inside Applications Support, it still did not have the GuildWars 2 folder, hidden deactivated or not.
EDIT: I did find it, I was making a noob mistake of looking under Macintosh HD then library, app support instead of my Macbook Pro’s Name then library, app support.

Finally got it. Thanks so much Tactics and Jamie !

Just wanted to add that the defaults command that’s been suggested works but it’s kind of using a cannon just to kill a termite.
You can make only the Library folder visible with the following command:
- chflags nohidden ~/Library
Not that you don’t need to restart Finder for that to take effect.
Other than that: this thread (or another with the same or similar reset instructions, maybe illustrated?) should be stickied.

Long story:
I got white screen after an update last night (Dec 16 around 20:30), and thought some file got corrupted and needed to reinstall. Re-downloaded the game this morning (Dec 17) and found the problem persisted. Finally, I found this solution. Many thanks again!

Same issue here. The solution didn’t work for me. I move the folder to the desktop, run it again and the same gray screen with the gw2 cursor shows up. Gray in window mode, black in full screen. Also tried downloading the client again but it was useless.
I have yet to try this method, but when I asked support, this is the response I got:
“Hello,
Thank you again for contacting NCsoft Technical Support.
After reviewing the details of your Mac’s configuration, your Mac does not meet the minimum specifications to play Guild Wars 2 as intended. Specifically, your system’s Intel Core 2 Duo does not conform to the required minimum specifications. Here are the Guild Wars 2 system requirements:
Mac Beta Minimum System Requirements
Mac OS®X 10.7.X or later
Intel® Core™ i5 or better
4 GB Ram or better
NVIDIA® GeForce® 320M, ATI Radeon™ HD 6630M, Intel HD 3000 or better
25 GB available HDD space
Broadband Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse/equivalent
Note: Due to potential changes, system requirements may change over time and you may be required to upgrade your current system (or obtain a new system) to continue to play the game.
Additionally, it is possible that you are now unable to play due to recent updates bringing more optimization to the game which resulted in more systems that fail the minimum requirements being unable to play.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any additional issues, questions or concerns.
Regards,
Loxy

Only kind of like giving me the finger, right? Works well on one version, but after an update it suddenly doesn’t work. Wow.
This solution worked for me, though…shows how well support researches things…
