June 3rd patch: several issues
It’s called rubber banding – the communication between the server and your client don’t match up (for whatever reason), and so the client doesn’t really know what it is supposed to be showing you. Then once it makes contact with the server properly you get a fast forward effect as it places everything in its right place.

I’m used to rubber-banding in games since EQ beta in 1998, and I’m not a stranger to actual disconnects too, but the third one that’s unnoticeable and takes away your reward at the end of the event is fairly new. To me, it sounds like it’s a glitch with the megaservers seeing there are a lot of people not receiving chests/rewards from events even though they should have.
I know that you do have to deal a certain amount of damage for it to actually count you, with scaling and high numbers of people it’s not uncommon for you to not get credit. It’s ridiculous, but it does happen :S
In either case, that particular issue has nothing to do with the OSX client and you would be better off filing a bug report.
