The latest patch on June 3rd has caused a fair few issues on my MBP that I wonder if anyone else has experienced.

1. It made my FPS go down a lot, even in empty PVE zones. I zoned into Caledon forest just now, not a single person around, jungle wurm not due anytime soon. I got 14fps. Before the patch I used to have 40fps there. That’s just an example. Frostgorge Sound is playable, moving about there used to be a pain, slow… fast… slow… fast… slow.. but now it’s more like moving through treacle.

2. I get odd disconnects. Some kick me out of the game, others just make people run into walls for a bit and then everything fast-forwards until I’m up to speed. But the kicker one is: Today I went on a great wurm attempt in bloodtied coast with a guild mate. Even though we decapitated two wurms, I didn’t get any silver chest – which happens to me a lot, and to a lot of other people. A seemingly random bug I’ve thought. But then I talked to my guild mate who said he got a message that I went offline and then came back online a few seconds later during the fight. I didn’t disconnect. I didn’t even notice a connection problem. But I looked at his logs and sure enough it said I went offline and then immediately online again. I checked my own system log, and it looks like I logged on in the middle of the fight (it shows a lot of friends coming online right at that moment, like it does when you log on).

So, that’s an unnoticeable server disconnect, for a second or so, that doesn’t kick you out of the game, doesn’t show anything wrong while you’re playing, and it looks like it robs you out of getting any rewards.

It’s called rubber banding – the communication between the server and your client don’t match up (for whatever reason), and so the client doesn’t really know what it is supposed to be showing you. Then once it makes contact with the server properly you get a fast forward effect as it places everything in its right place.

I’m used to rubber-banding in games since EQ beta in 1998, and I’m not a stranger to actual disconnects too, but the third one that’s unnoticeable and takes away your reward at the end of the event is fairly new. To me, it sounds like it’s a glitch with the megaservers seeing there are a lot of people not receiving chests/rewards from events even though they should have.

I know that you do have to deal a certain amount of damage for it to actually count you, with scaling and high numbers of people it’s not uncommon for you to not get credit. It’s ridiculous, but it does happen :S

In either case, that particular issue has nothing to do with the OSX client and you would be better off filing a bug report.
