I am at my wits end at this point. After numerous reinstalls for the last month or so, dealing with support I had 0 issues solved.

- Can’t buy gems. Solution = Use Windows.

- Can’t get my § shortcut back. Told it doesn’t work, so how was it working since I installed the game and only failed on the recent reinstall? Had to change my shortcuts.

- Mouse goes crazy and has nothing to do with the suggested solution I was given. Only solution to CMD-Tab out and in again once I am in the game.

- TgUpdate dialog taking 1-10 minutes when launching. Was suggested to install from an untrusted source a copy of the client (which does not work).

- Default graphics settings crashes OSX (have to hard reboot). I fixed this by launching from a windows machine and changing the graphics settings until the crash stopped occurring.

So I still have all these issues. The game actually worked at one point, so I don’t accept the fact we are told to live with these.

Now the latest patch the game just crashes after 1-3 minutes entering WvW. Also randomly crashes in other zones. LA, KH and the Winter games are the only places it hasn’t crashed.

I’ve given up at this point.

shouldn’t have updated to mavericks if you’re so into GW2 until you hear an official statement from anet that it’s supported now.

Mavericks has absolutely nothing to do with the issues. The game worked perfectly up until I did a clean install of the client (and was running fine on Mavericks).

If it is working for you, I recommend not installing from scratch.

I have a feeling you might be having issues with that key because it isn’t the same as a US standard layout keyboard. For me the key above tab does this: ` or ~ (I live in New Zealand, pretty sure our keyboards are identical to US keyboards).

I would strongly suggest checking your keyboard layout settings in the System Preferences app.

Just a heads up, ArenaNet tech support suggests keeping your mac’s up-to-date with the latest drivers and OS.
“1.) Run software update to ensure all drivers and OS are up to date. (Remember the Mac client requires the latest version of 10.7 or above)”
As quoted from Luis Machado, Tech Support. So Mavericks should never be the issue.
If ANet wants to continue “Officially” supporting OSX, they need to be sure there latest build is compatible with OSXs latest build (crazy, i know!) It’s sort of like if everyone’s client stopped working with Windows 8.1, but worse because we get bottom priority.

I have all of the issues the OP does, plus several more on a new Haswell rMBP. The TP fails to load 90% of the time and when it does the text is unreadable, there’s unplayable lag since the patch, etc.

It is really bad, and I’ve basically just stopped playing due to the accumulation of so many issues.

I’ve had all the exact issues you describe. I don’t buy gems atm but fine, their loss… And I too had § on weapon switch. So annoying suddenly can’t use that anymore (after reinstall, I now use middle mouse button).

I’ve had that shortcut problem before when I wanted to reinstall GW2 and see if loading would increase a bit (about 2 months ago) but then too the shortcut didn’t work anymore. I reverted the version using Time Machine and it worked fine again. However now I don’t have that version anymore so can’t do anything anymore. I do wonder though, if these problems are errors of Anet, or did a external port team create the mac version. It doesn’t seem like Anet has an official spokesperson for the mac client either so I guess it is an external company that makes it but doesn’t even test it because they can’t be bothered or something? I just mean to say, this last update for the gem store, it didn’t work for about 80% of the people with the problems and created more problems for every user. How can they have created this and though “aw well… we put some work in it, its probably fine”? Can they really be that unlucky that these problem are not occurring on their test pc’s?

Mavericks is not supported. A quote is only relevant as it stood at the time it was said. That advice was given before the release of Mavericks. If you look at the Recommended/Supported Technical Specifications listed for GW2 running on OSX Mavericks is not listed. Mavericks changes the way things work within the operating system and this has been known to cause some issues with the client. Also your example is irrelevant. New Operating Systems have ALWAYS wrought incompatibilities. As new versions of Windows came out DOS was not included and therefore a ton of programs coudln’t be run on the newer systems. When Snow Leopard came out there were a LOT of incompatibilities with programs and it took a while after the OS’s release for developers to bring their programs forward to be able to work with said programs. You need to remember that the GW2 app is using Cider, so Anet has to wait for CIDER to be Mavericks compatible.

When you upgrade to a new Operating System you do so at your own risk. If you couldn’t be bothered to check whether or not the programs YOU want to run are compatible then you are the one at fault. Developers are not obliged to consistently and immediately update their software for you, that is something that takes time and money.

Same issues as OP. Mavericks has nothing to do with it. It worked fine before they made changes to the client to try to fix the gemstore bug. It seems to me that they downgraded the internal browser in the game, the fonts are no long clear and crisp, they are jagged, like when the client first came out.

Again, Mavericks is not a problem, game runs better on Mavericks than any previous OS version.

According to you, Mavericks is not supported, based on the fact that it doesn’t fall under Guild Wars 2 ‘Recommended/Support Technical Specs’ (aka system requirements). Here is what the system requirements are for Windows OS and OSX
[Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better]
[Mac OS®X 10.7.X or later]
Here is what you recommended to user Dano.5298

Yeah if you’re going to get Windows, definitely Windows 7 pro/Ultimate 64bit.
Windows 7 has slightly better performance when it comes to gaming than 8 and 64bit will make everything load noticeable faster.

Now why would you recommend something that ArenaNet doesn’t support? According to your logic, anyone who isn’t playing on Windows XP or OSX 10.7 shouldn’t expect developers to update there software, and that “…you are the one at fault.”
Now, don’t get me wrong here, I understand why you recommended Win7. It’s pretty much Microsoft’s most solid/stable OS out for gaming, the Windows XP of the current generation I’d say.
Bottom line man is this: ArenaNet came out Sep 18th 2012 and stated they are now supporting Apple’s OSX.
All I am asking, is they do what they stated and support it AND its community. When something goes wrong (I.E. Black Lion not loading, Gem store purchasing, gamma adjusting, camera rotation…) I don’t expect it to be fixed on the spot. I DO expect some kind of update to the consumer. We haven’t heard from an Official support rep in what, 3 day? And now it’s the weekend.

Thanks man for understand! <3

No, I agree, it says “or better” so of course that is including Vista and 7, and Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
- Last time I looked at the support page I’m quite certain that it did not say 10.7.x “or better” though. So my apologies, I wasn’t aware it had been changed.

It’s cool man.
Most of us just want to be kept in the loop, while our clients are bugging out. If someone from ArenaNet actually keep us updated on what’s going on, even if it were just

“Hey, we’re still working on the issues! Please be patient and thank you for your support.”

A lot of the negativity towards this Mac Beta Client wouldn’t be here. Personally, as a former IT, I would want a more technical response, but right now I’d take what I can get.

I honestly don’t believe Mavericks to be the issue. I’ve been playing on my 13 inch Early-2011 MBP (running OSX 10.9) with almost no problems at all.

The trading post issue, I get about 50% of the time, but from judging others with Windows this seems to be an issue pressed to them as well.

Every so often, I’ll get a Camera glitch in which I have to exit the client , jiggle my plugged in mouse and just be frustrated until the camer decides to act normal, but other than that, I never DC, I usually average 30 FPS, and my game never crashes.

The game was released August 28 2012. That is 1 year and 4 months, which is in no way “well over a year”, nor is it multiple years. I’ve been playing since beta and following the game for years before that after having played GW1 since release. Pretty sure I know what I’m saying.

Ya’ll need to relax :P

Like tons of other people, I as well have been playing the Guild Wars series since probably 2008. I loved the lore of it. I loved the ‘build’ idea behind the game. I really, really loved Factions!

That being said, I understand peoples frustrations with this client.

I think it stems from a feeling of betrayal.
It’s like, “ArenaNet, I’ve been such a follower! Why have you been so silent about these issue?”

Arguing amongst ourselves in the forums about “Don’t make excuses for ANet!” or “I’ve been a fan longer, I would know!” isn’t going to help anything.

As for me, I’m just gonna wait patiently, see what happens. Today I got a satisfaction survey request about the ticket I submitted two days ago. I filled it out with a lot of the stuff that users are having issues with still and gave it a ‘Not Satisfied’ result.

One can hope when Monday comes, we’ll get another response from…someone…
anyone…

It’s true, the last couple weeks have been almost unbearable to play.

Mouse spinning issue. Slow load times (Plus icons just not loading for a long time). TP not working at least 1/3rd of the time. Getting disconnected randomly despite a solid connection.

I’m not sure how many of these are solely Mac problems but considering the support the Mac version has received I’m inclined to believe they all are.

Yes to fully utilise the Mac Client you only need to do the following steps.

1. Purchase and download Microsoft Windows. (avg price $200)
2. Run bootcamp installer to set up a partition.
3. Boot into that partition and install all patches for windows.
4. Install a virus checking software.
5. Install windows version of Guildwars 2.

And presto! Your Mac client has never worked so better! /s

@FlamingFoxx you are really not helping. I’ve been reading a few of your comments and they have either been unhelpful or antagonistic to people who have real issues with the client and expect to use it, not be told to run windows.

You want to help, explain in detail step by step how to set up and run GW2 in wineskin. Because I tried that and I can tell you straight off without those steps it is impossible for anyone to do.

Also amazing as it sounds but many Mac users don’t have MS Windows, nor want it.

TL;DR Telling someone to run windows is not a solution.

I switched over to Bootcamp yesterday. It took a long time to set up from scratch and thankfully I had already paid the €299 for Windows some time back, but the hoops and continual patch updates was a PITA. (which is why I am annoyed)

So I am running the windows client at this point. Oddly enough as 99% of the stuff I do is in OSX, the incentive to reboot the machine to play GW2 has dropped.

I will also no longer be purchasing any gems with real world cash until we get a working Mac client.

How i would LOVE to tell a windows user that, to play a game, they would have to do a setup on their computers to install OS X with a reboot JUST to play. That will never happen though.

Just going to put this here as well from what I posted in another thread:

As this forum seems to garner little attention from Anet the best Mac customers can do is submit support tickets for problems they are having. If a ticket submitted has not been resolved then update the ticket with more details and to let them know the problem has not been fixed. Note, do not submit the multiple tickets for the same problem as this will bog down the response. However, do update your tickets if the problem has not been resolved. Sadly, that’s the best we can do.

The info in this thread has been real helpful in getting people updated to get into the game, to solve camera issues, and to allow Gem Store purchases, if that is your desire.

As far as I can see, the info would not directly impact those using Bootcamp, but I think the thread is worth a view as it might address issues that you are having with Mac use for GW2.
