Hullo. New to GW2, and I just created my first character. Upon selecting “play,” the game showed a loading screen with the name of the starting area and a little spinning loading/buffering widget. I was then brought directly to the playing area, but I thought there was some sort of cinematic? That’s what I’ve seen in a few Youtube videos I’ve watched. Did my game miss something, or are there no longer opening cut scenes? If there is one, is there any way I can go back and see it? My character is an Asura, if that helps.

Edit: I’m on a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 — just downloaded that last night. Can supply more information if needed.

Okay, I found out what happened. Opening cinematic is apparently supposed to occur immediately after character creation. My screen froze at this point the first time around and I had to restart. The character had been saved, but I accessed it from the log in screen and not from the character creation page. Thus, no cut scene.

Is there any way for me to view the cinematic that I should have seen now?

Hi Ryadell, there is no way to re-play your opening cinematic, but you could create a new character with the same choices, watch the cinematic, then delete the character.

If you don’t recall exactly what options you chose at the end of your character creation, you can load him/her and press H to open the Hero panel, then select the “My Story” icon on the left, and finally select “I’m <Name>” at the top of the list. Your choices will be listed at the right.

I’d like to encourage you to consider providing a “replay cinematic” option through the (say) hero panel. By this I mean any cinematic a character has “unlocked”, including the faction choice, dungeon story mode cinematics, and whatever else.

I know that there are more important issues at the moment, but the cinematic’s art style is so well done and GW2 lore is so much fun to watch, so please don’t hide them.

I strongly agree with this suggestion. I find myself constantly taking screenshots (I believe I had nearly a thousand when I checked last) because I think it’s so epic. While others may question the merits of the cinematic style used in Guild Wars 2, I often find the situations so cool, the dialogue so entertaining, and the world in general so engrossing that I want to be able to see it again. Unfortunately, while this ability was present in later installments of the original Guild Wars (Eye of the North and—I think— Nightfall), it didn’t seem to make it into Guild Wars 2. It would be awesome to be able to watch again, for example, the celebration cinematic following my triumph at an epic battle with a major-league villain.

I think the Hero panel would be the perfect place for it. I would place one or more buttons, depending on the story step, alongside the text describing each encounter. I would put it in approximately the same place as the “souvenirs” we nominally receive from certain story quests (I won’t comment further on those “items” here).

Thank you for the response, DevonCarlson. I believe that I shall do that; I’d really like to see the cinematic.

I agree with the other posters that it would be really epic to have a replay cinematic option. They’re really well done!

I second this idea as well. All the cinematics including personal stories and vistas per say.

I can’t redo a Personal Story like creating a new char. It’s a shame to miss a few of them.

Particularly when the screenshot function is broken and I couldn’t take pictures in combat to memorize the glorious moment I killed some bosses, the cinematic became the last thing I can reserve…

I also think that replaying unlocked cinematics would be a nifty feature. Just to relive that moment once again!

I like this suggestion of having a replay cinematic option. I love the videos and cinematics in this game, but sometimes… sadly, something comes up just as one starts to play and I’ve missed something so awesome and there is no way to see it again. I know this can’t be done for all since some are based right from in-game and transition, but for videos like the opening cinematic and major story steps where you don’t necessarily see your character doing anything or it could be just the generic model for your character.

Just a thought, but yeah, I like it and would love to see something like that implemented in the future!
